Drama brewing in Dez World

The issue is not about David Wells per se.

Dez had a legit agent. He fired that agent and hired the combination of Roc Nation and another agent.

Jerry advised him that the original agent was a good one. None of the well known, legit agents are going to sell their client down the river. That would be bad for future business and it would be a smaller cut for them.

It seems obvious that he fired the original agent because he advised Dez that his contract expectations were unreasonable.

If I was Jerry/Stephen, I would much prefer that Dez use any of the well known, legit agents while they are trying to negotiate a new contract, without the Roc Nation involvement which seems like a distraction to a player that has had his share of issues in his short career.

Tom Condon of CAA is one of the most respected agents in the game.

Players change representation all the time.

In fact, JJones has a huge conflict of interest as far as recommending agents since they will be negotiating with JJones on Dez' behalf.

JJones is not his father.

JJones is not his agent.

JJones will ultimately choose team over player.

JJones is not a very good role model off the field.

Dez is not a "kid". He is a grown man with children of his own.

It appears that you and Dez have a similar perspective.

Dez has shown himself to be a dumb, arrogant, hot headed, irresponsible young person.

Jerry has shown himself to be a great businessman that has been overly generous with players in the past. Many of them have said he was a great mentor to them.

That is one of the most patronizing posts I have seen around here and that is saying something.

Tom Condon is not the problem. We would not be having this discussion if Tom Condon was the only new entity involved with Dez. Roc Nation is the concern.

Jerry is not recommending agents per se. He told Dez that the Cowboys had gotten deals done to the satisfaction of other players with the original agent.

I doubt if you have ever dealt with a real estate agent; however, I will use this example anyway. When you want to sell a house, you can consult with different agents on what they would recommend as the sale price. Inexperienced sellers will always go with the one that had the highest recommend list price. Experienced, mature sellers will often go with the one that they believe has the most honest and accurate assessment of the value.

Wow, more patronizing. I have bought and sold plenty of homes in my life.

You are not making your terrible argument any stronger by insulting people.

I'm not really sure how that was an insult. When you discuss something with a person on the internet, you don't know them so you tend to envision who you're talking with. I like to encapsulate my impressions on occasion just to get a picture of who is on the other end of the discussion and to see if I'm accurately understanding what they're saying. You're free to say that my assumption is incorrect.

Jerry Jones is a known drunk and womanizer. Income doesn't trump that particularly when dealing with impressionable young people in my view. Dez is never going to go for his MBA.

OTOH, Dez is more likely to pick up Jones' bad habits as opposed to his better ones. You are right that he is not overly intelligent but he is one of the few people that I know that recognizes his limitations and deals with things with that full in mind. Dumb people that pretend like they aren't are where the foolhardy arrogance comes in. Dez is polite and reserved in public.

Outside of rejecting your boy Wells and his master West, what exactly has Dez done in the last two years. The jewelry and family conflict was two years ago. At what point does he start being responsible and allowed to decide who represents him and handles his wallet? 3 or 4 years? More?

I would have sent him a cease and desist order too.

Well at least you proved the old saying about assumptions

Stick to the salary cap, it is your much stronger suit

Typo but it works well.

It's funny that people separate Tom Condon/CAA as respectable but Roc Nation as trouble. CAA partnered with roc nation for two years and only recently ended that partnership. Tom Condon left CAA to join Roc.

Respected agent setting out with new firm is a good way to find a motivated advocate.

Lol that everyone keeps separsting tom condon and roc natioN.

Tom Condon left CAA. He now worms for Roc NatioN.

For the record, I've seen nothing that shows Condon has joined Roc Nation. There's speculation, but no announcement. He's the primary negotiator for Dez new contract, but he's not an employee of RN.

There was a huge shake up at CAA and a lot of agents left with their big clients. I read one the agents that left was named M. Condon, but it wasn't Tom. I still haven't seen anything that says he has officially left CAA.

Is there something I don't know about Roc Nation? There seem to be a lot of people in this thread who think of them as shady or something.

They are a marketing company backed by Jay-Z and while they cannot negotiate contracts directly, they hire agents to negotiate contracts. In Dez situation, his old agent Eugine Parker almost had a deal worked out with Dallas and then Dez signed with Roc Nation and fired Parker, thus the new agent that represents Dez now is Tom Condon. Likewise, Dez's old marketing company of "ThrowUpTheX" was fired and now Roc Nation handles all of the marketing for Dez and apparently ThrowUpTheX is not taking kindly to losing potentially millions of dollars and have lawyered-up.

As far as Roc Nation being shady or being involved in any illegal activities, I have not seen any evidence of that.

Almost had a deal? We have no idea how close they were or weren't.

The sticking point is obvious: Dez wants $40m guaranteed like other top WR. I don't think the Cowboys were ever close to that.

Cowboys are in a bit of a pickle. Wells has been telling them and anyone else who will listen that Dez is trouble for years. He is their security contractor. Dez has now rejected Wells in dramatic fashion serving cease and desist orders demonstrating very clearly what his position on Wells is.

Do you trust Wells who is telling them that Dez is trouble or do you trust Dez who keeps on saying that he has done nothing wrong?

ThrowUptheX produced nothing that I can see last season during Dez's monster year. He has been waiting to talk about what it means for over two years and nothing.

When they first started they couldn't fully negotiate and had a 2 year agreement with CAA to handle that part of the business. Tom Condon of CAA represents Dez's contract and a RocNation Sports agent is handling his marketing.

Roc Nation officially split with CAA in February as planned. They have handled some of the biggest contracts in sports the last couple years, like Robbie Cano in baseball-240m, NSuh- 114m and just signed Kevin Durant in the NBA.

They are just getting started, but appear to be formidable.

I never quite understand posts like this.

I look around the league and see other superstars on popular NFL teams not have this drama. I missed where Aaron Rodgers has issues like this. I missed where Tom Brady had issues like this. I missed where Calvin Johnson had issues like this.

So let's not act like this is just media created drama or that it's not a really big deal. Off the field problems sometimes have a way of taking their toll on a player on the field. I am not saying that will be the case here, but frankly, Dez needs to get his personal affairs in order. Hopefully this is a step in that direction once this all gets settled.

DeMaryius Thomas is having these exact same "drama". Did you miss this?
