Glad to see Sweat on the list. Also like Dewayne Carter a bit. Be curious to see if they meet with Newton.
Carter in 3rd would be good especially if we get Sweat. Rotate Is and Carter have Sweat hang out with Mazi teach him to eat like a big boy and sing Grover Stewart. Let's get it.

I'll share DEs in a separate thread, more of them than I thought

Nope...the only DT that has a chance of coming in and being as good as Osa in year 1/2 is Murphy / Newton. Sweat different positions and play style.
Orohoro is just raw, has great power very heavy handed. But a 3 year return type

If JPJ is gone I'd have little trouble drafting him at 24. Will need to see weigh in, not doing that at Sr Bowl was a little concerning but nothing can't get past

He won't last to 56
His tape is way better than Mazi's. If we thought Mazi was worth a late 1st, I'd spend the same pick on Sweat without blinking.

Not over JPJ though. Huge need at C

I do think we will bring a DT in FA, a vet who can plug middle with Hankins.

But we get 45 formal visits at combine 5 of them have been DT they are drafting one guaranteed

You are not a Jackson fan at all, are you?
McKinley Jackson? He's fine...but he doesn't make plays he essentially just eats blocks. He's a Q Bohana type prospect...if they want to take a late round flyer on him go for it.

We just lost power I was planning on a thread for LBs and Edge players. But need to conserve phone for now

We've actually had at least informal visits with more LBs at this point.
That could be a tell, that they are going to look towards fa and that they don't like the class.

If JPJ is gone, I'd be looking to get one of these guys:
Byron Murphy
Amarius Mims
Brian Thomas Jr.
Troy Fautanu
Tyler Guyton
Chop Robinson
Keon Coleman
Graham Barton

Trade back:
T'Vondre Sweat
Zach Frazier
Tyler Nubin

Hopefully, they pick the right guy or whoever they take is at least a solid player. They need to hit on this draft and get some improvement from the guys that they took last year.

Murphy is a stud. He, Newton, or Sweat I would love to have.

Newton is a monster. Played Half of this year on a broken foot.

Newton’s 44 pressures during the regular season led all Big Ten defensive tackles by 15, and he also led Big Ten defensive tackles in sacks with 7.5, which ranked second overall in the conference. Over the last two seasons, Newton totaled 103 quarterback pressures, by far the most in the nation among defensive tackles.

It's kind of weird that Newton doesn't have his own thread yet, I considered posting one. He's had 2 seasons where he's done nothing but blow up offenses.

I actually DMed Lance Z about this on X and he responded saying Sweat is ahead of Mazi comfortably as a prospect.

Not saying I’m on board with Sweat at 24 just saying.

If Kancey got taken in the 20s last year you can’t tell me Johnny doesn’t warrant it. His pressure numbers over the last 2 years is absolutely absurd.

My only concern is does he fit into what we’re trying to build? For a team that is notoriously soft and needs more dogs in the middle against the run can he be that guy?

Yeah, I'd agree that he's not really a fit. Johnny's not going to be a plus run defender in the pros. He's the kind of DT that Marinelli would love, sort of a slippery, high-effort 3 tech. But if we already have Osa in that role, then it's either Johnny becomes a rotational player, or we go small-ball and play two gap shooters.

Even after saying that, I'd still probably take him at #24, just because I want that kind of disruption on our D line.

That being said…could look at it like this as I believe Osa is in a contract year.

- Year 1 have a dynamic pair of pass rushing 3Ts that you can keep fresh and also have both on the field in 3rd and long.
- If Johnny shows enough promise allows you to replace Osa for cheap and let him walk

I have a feeling someone will fall that will make more sense but I could get on board. I’d much rather take him then do a super reach for need like we did last year.

I'm leaning toward going for it with Sweat.
