Deuce has talent. Problem is numbskull McCarthy and his inability to know how to use it, along with coaching hires that have made our Oline and receiving crew worse.

He was not demoted. He would need to be released, clear waivers, then signed to the PS.

He is inactive tonight though.
Sorry that IS a demotion. You were on the active roster and now you are not. For any NFL player worth his salt, that's a demotion. Heck, you can be on the active roster and be told you are the #2 option...again...a demotion.

The thread title wasn't true. It doesn't matter to me if he is on the team or not. It wouldn't surprise me if Davis plays well.
The thread title is accurate. He ain't on the active roster and he was before. DEMOTION.

I think that they just wanted to get Davis active so he feels part of the team. They want to use all of their backs and have them ready to go.

And again he was not demoted. He was just inactive. It is a numbers game.

They needed extra defensive players due to injuries over having a 4th RB. Heck they did not even use their 3rd RB.

And no, I am not a Deuce fan. Really need to see him more. I don't hate him, but not high on him either, at this point.

Show me where he is not on the active roster. Inactive for 1 game is not being considered ...NOT ... on....the active roster.....
OK, FINE...he's "INACTIVE". WHAT DO "VOLUNTARY" MEAN? From a player's standpoint being told that you CAN'T and WON'T see the field - when a week before you played during games - IS A DEMOTION.

DEMOTION: reduction in rank or status.

Stop while you are behind.

Good grief.....

Deuce was inactive. This was to allow more LB and special teamers to be active.
With the new 4-time promotion from PS model expect this to happen again a few more times this year.

It isn't a bad deal in anyway.
Dallas had Dowdle run the ball all of 3 times.
They didn't need a 3rd running back who couldn't cover kicks with the Goodwin injury.

6th round picks are often inactive. This is largely a non-story.

I agree. But if you are Deuce Vaugn, how do you see this?

To be clear, I'm not in any camp as regards Deuce. I've closely followed NFL drafts since 1991 - Joel Buschbaum, Mel Kiper, etc. - and I've not seen may guys his size survive the NFL. Austin Eckler is taller and bigger. David Meggett and Darren Sproles are all exceptions to the rule. Exceptions PROVE the rule...so I would be pleasantly surprised if he does well, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Is he a publicity pick? I don't know...I doubt it. The friend that I attended drafts with back in the 2000s called me after we drafted Vaughn and told me he hates us because we always get the guys he likes. So, no...I think the Cowboys legitimately picked him, but it's a risky pick. Par for the Cowboys course.

Still a spot for Deuce, it's just time for all of you who were writing the 1,500 yards and a cloud of dust threads before the season to accept reality which is he is a role player at best. LOL

If I'm a Coach, I think the biggest problem with a guy limited with that size is as you play him to his strengths, the more predictable the offense we he's out there. Can't treat him like an every down back.

We saw some moves preseason, so I still think you have to get guys like him and Turpin involved somehow. Playmaker, ability to turn nothing into something, comes to mind with guys like that.

I still believe in Duece, our run game and run blocking has been awful so far though. No wonder Deuce has struggled as much as our other RBs.
I still believe in Pollard too, even though he averaged 2 yds a carry last night.

You're just mad. He was demoted. He was playing on game day and now he isn't. I don't have a bone in this fight...but to run and tell the mods...pathetic.
Better than having false information on the site. He isn't on the practice squad.

They are making a mistake if they get rid of him. He ran very well in preseason. Yes it’s not against starters but our O-Line is not run blocking well for any RB. They give other RBs one or 2 carrys and the rest go to Pollard up the middle. Won’t give Luekpe many carrys. I think the last attempt Luekpe had was a 4 yard TD carry from the red zone. Lol. Makes no sense at all. I am shocked at the running plays called and the blocking.

Deep down inside, Jerry's an old softie. Why else promote Garrett to head coach? Among other things.

His coach probably mentioned he hoped Deuce would be able to get on some team, so Jerry said draft him. Got so money for his rookie contract and the chance to play in the NFL, albeit not a lot.

And by the end of the draft it's a crap shoot anyway, no harm in taking a guy who has some talent, you never know (Tom Brady anyone?).

Deuce will be cut next year, probably....

Vaughn is an end of roster player. He remains on an active roster because there is a likelihood another team would poach him off waivers.
But where is Eric Scott who was picked 40 picks higher in the same 6th round?
Or other recent Cowboy 6th rounders?
I'm guessing Vaughn is quite happy to be getting active NFL player pay and credits while I am sure he'd love some snaps as well; he is paying the bills doing his job.

Size is whatever. Turpin is tiny. He weighs less than Vaughn.
You either carve out a role or you do not.
Eagles drafted an 170-pound WR in R1 and is making that work.

Personally, I'd trade for a proven back off a tanking team : See Arizona/Denver.
I'd like a physical inside runner who also understands blocking schemes to buy me a year.

Deuce will have his day IMO. But it isn't that big a deal to me as I still think he is a 3rd RB regardless. A gadget player.
