The last couple years, we've been hearing about how Dunbar will be a significant piece of the offense -- kinda like Escobar. And I then nothing much. But if they want a thumper as RB, then I think Dunbar is expendable, and Whitehead can take his place as backfield/slot receiving threat. They just don't seem interested in giving Dunbar carries. So just get a power back who will actually have a specialized role.

We're stuck with him. Face it.

They struggle with releasing him because he is easily the fastest player on the roster

With Murray now gone, and no actual feature back on this team, I think this season might be the year where you finally get to see a little more of Dunbar.

That is unless McFadden or Randle just light the world on fire when they're in the game.

Clutts and DMac will be the short yardage backs.

Dunbar is our third string running back. That is his role. He plays special teams, gadget plays and catches a pass here and there. I say again, he's third string. Name a team whose third string running back gets carries or has a specialized role...

Chances are, we will have to see Dunbar this year. It's all good, we have to find out and I really want to know.

If Dunbar makes the 53 and gets less than 500 yards, I'll consider this roster decision a big fail.

I think the people who don't understand the Dunbar situation aren't really questioning what his job should be as 3rd RB, but more why he can't be replaced with someone who might be more valuable to the RB corps.

This RB angst makes me want to shoot myself in the face.

We're in the same position we've been in for the last four years when and if Demarco Murray gets injured, only we also have McFadden.

In the case of Dunbar I don't think it's the product of the same angst. The guy just hasn't done anything and people want to take his roster spot because he's... well, not doing anything. And with McFadden being a home run hitter who can catch the ball, it seems that Dunbar is more redundant/less useful than ever.

But the coaching staff loves him, in spite of the fact that they clearly don't like him enough to give him more than 1 carry per game or whatever he averages.

As the third string back? You mean like a guy who plays on all the ST units? Or a guy who knows the system in case of emergency? There is nothing another 3rd string back is going to bring to this team that Dunbar doesn't. He's here for a reason.

The Coaches love Street, but he's the 4th or 5th wideout so he doesn't see much. They love Byron Jones and he's the 5th CB. They love several guys on the defensive front 7 who may see 2-3 snaps/game. What do all these situations have in common? It's called depth. Its a luxury we have at HB because of Dunbar, not in spite of him.

Clearly the coaching staff thinks so. And in spite of the fact that I don't see it I'm inclined to trust them since they're at every practice and infinitely more knowledgeable about football than I am. But for 1.5 million a year that's a pretty sweet gig he's got lined up.

This. Why, I have no idea- but he did make a key play vs Seattle, so there's that one moment.

Which play was that. I can't remember. I remember the big 3rd and 23 to Twill but I don't remember dunker's play.

I think if a guy became available that they felt could fill his role as s RB and on special teams they would consider it
Obviously at this point they haven't seen the guy they feel is better
I suspect they tend to listen the the scouts that nobody can deny have done a good job last few years

We need a backup (third) RB. It's very unlikely that Randle and McFadden both make it through the season injury-free. I'm not enamoured with Dunbar. But I don't think he's bad for a 3rd RB. He will probably play some.

The players that will make a noticeable difference in the win/loss column are the ones that play lots of downs. Not the scrubs.

Kinda feels like premature rueage to me.

It appears that Dunbar is this year's top candidate for whipping boy.

He took a swing pass on third down and turned it into a big gainer with the score tied @ 10, the Cowboys would score to go up 17-10.

3rd and 8 at DAL 22
(2:13) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short middle to L.Dunbar to DAL 43 for 21 yards (E.Thomas; K.Chancellor).
