Carter looked promising at the end of 2012.

What happened. Just checked out mentally?

If Durant has been playing well in the Mike position why not leave him there? Unless Carter is really stinking it up? Honestly, what this defense needs is continuity. Leave him in the middle where he is finding success. You don't go fix what isn't broken. Especially when this defense has so many question marks to start the season.

Maybe because McClain is starting to show the promise he had when drafted and that overall the better alignment is McClain at Mike and Durant at Will?

Frankly, as much as I like Durant, he's not good enough at Mike that you refuse to move him.

EDIT: Whoops I just read that McClain isn't practicing this morning. Oy vey.

there are so many questions for this team and appears to not be as many answers.

Am I the only one who thinks Wilber is being a bit overrated? It is my hope that Carter wins the strong side job from him.

Do we know what kind of experience Carter has on the strong side? I would've guessed that putting our 3 best LBers on the field would be McClain/Durant/Carter, but it's looking more and more like Carter's going to end up on the outside looking in. If that ends up being the case I have to admit I'll be disappointed as I've said many times I had high expectations for Carter this year.

As for Wilber I don't know that he's being grossly overrated, it just looks like he's good enough to be a starter amongst what's turned into a thin LB corp.

I don't know about overrated, since I don't have all that much regard for him. I'm surprised he's a likely starter, though.

As for Carter, if he can't hold down the WIL, I don't much care one way or another what he does at the SAM. That guy's got too much ability to not have a spot sewn up by now. If he hasn't done it, it's a mental thing and I don't trust him.

LOL. Jerry means blue as in blue chip talent. But I agree, he should stop talking but he will not, you and I both know know it - he loves the attention too much.

That is ingrained, from all the way back to when he sold Insurance and gave car rides to fans following Arkansas home games...and then was a wildcatter with all on the line for each plunge into the ground. He has faced challenge, even if informed, from day one when he purchased the Dallas Cowboys.

At this pint McClain would give the team the most hope at MLB. Moving a player who has been doing better than expected to WILL Durant does deserve to get starting time. Fight it out all season at SAM Wilbur vs Carter. They both make mistakes and maybe one may step up. Maybe this team needs to keep the right OLB on the right and so with the left. Forget the sitting and simplify the system for our bunch. Personally I have made mention to bringing down Church into the box as a WILL and maybe it will be done using the season.

At the collegiate level, I would still be sticking with the kid's talent to prove out. At the professional level, his mental process is slowing him down. If he doesn't make a strong transition this season, I would downgrade his viewing place as top ended at an average professional for a linebacker. Gains from that point, are much more smaller and top end drops considerably in planning.

He only played the first 11 games of 2012. I think we all assumed that his issues in 2013 were scheme related but he could be having some type of mental issue related to being injured the previous year.

As to 'attitude' at the professional levels, I don't grade talent upon that aspect. It's what the player brings to performance. One just doesn't pay for a woulda', coulda', shoulda'. Heck Duane Thomas could perform with the best when he was with Dallas. It wasn't just attitude with him, but not showing up and leaving teams high and dry with non-interaction.

That's just not the window viewed concerning Rolando McClain. He interacts well, and is growing back quickly as to skills observable right now.

I still get the sense that he has motivation and point of observation short comings. Those two together are hard to overcome. Give him a simple one on one race with a tight end, and he is alright. Give him a hole selection and need to disengage from a blocker or avoid to hit target...well, his skill set appears challenged to me.

Everytime I see Wilber play....i'm incredibly underwhelmed.

He looks slow and unathletic at LB.

Better at pass rusher....but a healthy Dlaw takes those WDE nickel snaps from him anyhow...

Ugh.

Perhaps. But no need to **** all over the guy like people do around here. We'll just have to move on. These cats get too emotionally attached to this stuff.

Yeah, it's not personal. With either of them. I had high hopes for Bruce Carter. But it's pretty obvious from watching last year and this year that he's not going to excel at LB the way his athletic ability suggested he might.
I just generally don't like to have guys on the field--especially on defense--when they don't play with the confidence that they know their positions cold. It makes it that much harder on everybody else. I'd rather have the less impressive player who's where he's supposed to be...whether he gets trucked or not once he gets there.
