True but people forget that over time. I think oj the murderer had 2000 in a 14 game season. So Dickerson needed 16 to break the record.

I think they'd be crazy with nothing to gain to risk Barkley.
He did.

And Moss’s 23 TDs broke Rice’s record that was in 12 games, and Cooper Kupp’s historic 2021 happened in a 17 game season, and all but 1 of Jefferson’s “most yard through age X season” records are happening in 17 game seasons… so why doesn’t every record ever have a big asterisk? They used to even play fewer than 12 games.

People would have made a stink about it now if he broke it, but in a couple years when 17 game seasons are more normalized it wouldn’t have mattered; “the record is the record”
That Rice record is nuts. 22tds in 12 games. BUT i wouldn't put an * on it because it was during the 16 game era, only 15 games for SF because of the strike. But that doesn't make what Rice did any less amazing.

Then you can go back to when Don Hutson had 17 TDs in an 11 game season.

It’s a never ending crusade in pedantry. 23 is the season record. And for rushing, 2105 is the record unless someone gets more in 17 games or 18 games or 20 games. Yes, it’s not fair to Eric Dickerson; oh well.

You're kinda right. So maybe the best way to look at seasons is just "most dominant" which you can at least partially support with stats like OJ's YPG average. For example, Reggie White doesn't have the season sack record but had 21 in the 12 of 16 games he played in 1987 and is the most dominant display I have ever seen. I don't think anyone has had that dominant a stretch anywhere, sack record holder or not.

Good.

It would be gross to see Barkley break the record with the help of an extra game.
C'mon. Dickerson was at least a "game" ahead in carries. Barkley has the edge in yards-per-carry.

If Sirianni doesn't play Barkley, it will make me hate the former more. Which is scarcely possible.

More often than not, "rest" results in "rust."

If you have a well-oiled machine, keep running it. But, playing scared is such a Philly thing to do. And they deserve to pay for it in the playoffs.

I know the oline from Philly wants it more than Barkley does because that record will be associated with each one of them when the media brings them up individually.

17 games aren't normal.

The decision was made after conferring with the team’s owner. Sirianni may be dumb, but he’s not stupid.
