O.J. Simpson broke the 2,000-yard barrier in 1973 in just 14 games and that mark wasn't touched again until Dickerson did it in 1984 in a 16-game season with 2,105 with no bye weeks for either RB.

17 games with a bye week is just not the same for any NFL record prior to 1990.
Both are more impressive than Barkley's 2024 season. I saw Dickersons 1984 season and the league had never seen anything like his size and speed. OJ was an outlier in his era too. Missed most of his career though. Bills weren't on tv at all in the 70's and 80's. lol

You mean like Dickerson did it in two extra games? It’s a ridiculous argument. Things are never going to be exactly the same across eras.

If you want to be nitpicky about it, Saquon Barkley also got to 2000 in fewer carries.
Barkley had an amazing season and joins some great company among other 2k rushers. Nothing wrong with being 8th among the 2k rushers in 16 games. The Eagles are making the right call sitting him as Barkley has been pretty beat up in prior seasons with injuries and has missed time. They have a healthy Barkley, so no sense in risking it at this point as based on his history it's likely at some point he has something pop up.

The way he ran so upright with that size was unique.

Different football lifetime.

More than 10% of Barkley’s rushing yards came against the Cowboys. Simpson and Dickerson never had the advantage of getting to play against such trash as the 2024 Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Poorly coached, poor talent, the 233 yards he gained against Dallas should not even count. In reality Barkley didn’t even rush for 2000 yards.

I wouldn't go that far. In order to make that determination I would need to know how much playing time they all had. How many carries they all had, and then how many games they played. In a lot of games this year Barkley came out of games early if it wasn't close. He gained huge yards in the 4th quarter and was denied carries. Like in our game he could have potentially had another hundred yards if they kept him in. Out of him, and Dickerson I would take Barkley every day of the week for my team. I never watched Simpson, or any of his games.

I see why they did it, but don't like it at all. The kid has a chance to break an all-time record. I would've agreed with playing the starters half the game especially Hurts. Barkley would have had his 100 yards by halftime and then pull him out. The Eagles rested a lot of their starters last year and lost in the first round, and I've seen it happen all too many times. I don't think it gives you a advantage at all. I don't see them getting to the Super Bowl. They can potentially lose in the first round. Let the kid finish the season and get his reward for a rare performance.

Well, you could do the research if you were really that interested. I'm sure not doing it for you.

He didn’t play every game this year I believe. He also has about 30 less carries, so he would probably break the record in fewer carries.
Yeah, he's got 34 less carries and short 100 yards. If he played, he'd probably surpass Eric with a few less carries. Very similar statistically.

Do we really believe the Eagles won't play for this? I'm not so sure.

Judging by this thread The Eagles running back has some fans here.
Not certain, but your logic is flawed in considering that if Barkley set the record in 17 games, somehow, it really isn't a record in your opinion.

Dickerson got the record playing 16 games.

OJ Simpson got the record in 14 games.

Yet, you consider Dickerson having the "real record" when he play in 2 more games than Simpson. Go figure... LOL

Somebody on this website did the other day. I rechecked, and those numbers were accurate. Barkley given the same amount of carries would have blown away Dickerson's best season. I was never impressed with Dickerson. Check out his statistics over his playing career. I think in his 2nd year he had a really good year. But I would take Henry, or Barkley over him.

I dabbled in fantasy football, and have Barkley. So obviously I'm not real happy he's not playing. He's wrecked the Giants the first time around. Didn't he rush for something like 250 yards?

Barkley has been mostly a disappointment b/c of injury. Heck, if the Giants thought he was capable of the season he just had, they would have let him leave.

Dickerson has a gold jacket, and his career blows Barkleys away. AND, he ran in a tougher defensive era. So, maybe you need to lower that bar for being impressed? lol

ALL of this!! If they don't win the Super Bowl, this decision will be hanging over their heads forever.

He also did not not run in an era where quarterback play is a priority. So much so the league has changed playing rules to make sure the more exciting passing game is emphasized. The Cowboys are the perfect example. Pay your QB $60 million, replace your top back who left in free agency with an aging veteran. (now unceremoniously released).

Barkley is on a HoF trajectory.
