the cap can be manipulated. they lost a lot of players, but most were rather older too. as Bilicheck says, let them go a year early, than a year later.
Not what happened.

The cap can be manipulated, but only to a point. Don't believe that you can do anything you want w/ the cap, absolutely does not work that way.

What you're missing is that Eagles paid huge money to Hurts, AJ Brown, Lane Johnson, and several others. They have around 193 mil tied up in 10 players. That leaves what, 50-60 mil for the remaining 43.

Eagles had the #2 D in the NFL last season, a huge reason why they made the super bowl. You're acting as if they wanted to let these players go, and that it wouldn't affect them. Truth of the matter is, due to paying a few players huge salaries, the Eagles window is slamming shut, and quickly. They had to release several players that they did not want to release.

don't disagree. there is a limit, its not unlimited, but the ammo for all owners, is to backload contracts, then redo contracts to open cap space....at some point, when players are gone, there is a ton of dead cap space you have to deal with, for a year or two and you rebuild.

so that 193M will get redone and they can easily open 40-50M. and keep in mind, the money is not equally dispersed. the bottom 20 get min salary (or there about). so that's about 15M. that leaves 23 people and about 10-15 may get on average double the min salary (or even if its triple), that's another 30M..... so that leaves another 10 or so that get slightly larger contracts.

every team is heavy at the top with their top 10 players.

some of the players they may have wanted to keep, but couldn't. won't argue. but some they were ready to move on. some they could have, but made the wrong call. the eagles defense last year was predicated on their DL. same with this year. they spent their top first roudn pick on another DL man. they are just not playing as well.

If it's so easily manipulated, then why did the Eagles lose so many D starters? I mean, what was it, 62 starts from last season on D?

The Eagles were forced to tear apart their #2 D due strictly to salary constraints. It's really that simple.

as I said, its not limitless. I agreed with you there. but its manipulated. they lost some as they made a choice. some choices were wrong. they may have lost some because they didn't want to pay and had other priorities. we don't know the decisions that were made and here for the sake of argument you are assuming it was all because of only the cap.

at some point, you pay the piper. dead cap is coming.
