Hey, hey, hey. It's time to play.

I bet he hated being on the "skins" teams in shirts-and-skins pickup basketball games. The guy guarding him probably hated it, too.

Area NFL roundup: Todd Herremans should be Pro Bowler, says Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb

By Jeff Chaney | The Grand Rapids Press

December 28, 2009, 3:40PM

Todd HerremansTodd Herremans, a fifth-year starting left guard from Ravenna and Saginaw Valley State University, continues to play at a high level for the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

Herremans helped the Eagles stay atop the NFC East with a 30-27 win over the Denver Broncos at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Eagles' offense racked up 322 yards passing and 105 yards rushing against a solid Denver defense.

Philadelphia (11-4) continues to put up big numbers offensively each week even with an offensive line that has been banged up all year.

Herremans missed the first five weeks of the season with a stress fracture in his foot, starting left tackle Jason Peters recently has been in and out of the lineup because of injury, being replaced by Herremans, and on Sunday the Eagles lost starting center Jamal Jackson to a torn ACL in his left knee.

Before the game against Denver, Eagles starting quarterback Donovan McNabb gave praise to his line.

"I think Jamal Jackson and Todd Herremans should be Pro Bowlers," McNabb told The Associated Press. "(Starting right guard) Nick Cole has played outstanding. They've found a rhythm. They've allowed the skill guys to be effective running and throwing. Obviously, everything starts up front."

The rhythm will have to change now, as Cole replaced Jackson at center. Herremans, who has never made the Pro Bowl, will stay at left guard.

The Eagles can clinch their sixth division title this decade with a win at Dallas on Sunday.

AREA ROUNDUP

Joe Berger, Newaygo, Miami Dolphins

The fifth-year reserve center from Michigan Tech University started his fifth consecutive game for injured starter Jake Grove in Miami's 27-20 loss to the visiting Houston Texans. Berger also saw some time at left guard in the game because of injuries suffered along the line, but returned to center to finish up.

Brandon Carr, Grand Valley State, Kansas City Chiefs
The second-year starting cornerback had four tackles (three solo) in a 17-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Chiefs held the Bengals' offense to just 283 total yards, but Cincinnati running back Cedric Benson rushed for 133 yards. The Chiefs fell to 3-12 with the loss.

Eric Fowler, Grand Valley State, Detroit Lions
The second-year wide receiver, who recently was re-signed to the roster by the Lions, was inactive in Detroit's 20-6 loss at the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Lions fell to 2-13 with the loss.

David Harris, Ottawa Hills, New York Jets
The third-year inside linebacker from Michigan had nine tackles (four solo) in the the Jets' 29-15 win at the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The win improved New York's record to 8-7 and kept its playoff hopes alive, while giving Indianapolis (14-1) its first loss this season. Harris and New York's defense were key to the win, holding the Colts' to just 236 passin yards and 64 on the ground. The Jets can clinch a playoff berth with a win over Cincinnati in the NFL's final week of the regular season.

Dan Skuta, Grand Valley State, Cincinnati Bengals
The rookie free-agent linebacker played on special teams but did not record a tackle in the Bengals' 17-10 victory over the Chiefs. The Bengals improved to 10-5 and clinched the AFC North.

Joe Staley, Rockford, San Francisco 49ers
The third-year starting left tackle from Central Michigan University started and played almost a half before having to leave the game with a contusion in the same right knee that sidelined him for six games this season. The 49ers' still were able to pull out a 20-6 win over the visiting Detroit Lions to improve to 7-8.

I listened to Andy reids coaches show with merril reece and howard eskin.

reece and eskin gave Dallas zero credit for the win in november. Eskin is a complete moron, but reece has been calling games as long as sham and I found that interesting.

After the reid show, Todd herrimans came on and had his show, and reece asked herriman about ware. Eskin and reece said he was nothing special and herriman said he didnt do anything against us and we will face a better rush next week....they had sd the next week.

reece also said some crazy stuff about witten.

anyway, just thought I would add.

They could have been right about SD, since they got their butts kicked by them that week, too. S'all good as far as I'm concerned. This week is payback for last year, finally.

PHILADELPHIA -- While players around him were constantly shuffled in and out, Jamaal Jackson held the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line together.

Now the Eagles have lost their anchor.

Jackson will miss the rest of the season after tearing a knee ligament in Sunday's win over Denver.

"It's obviously a big loss. He's a good football player," coach Andy Reid said Monday.

Jackson made his 71st consecutive start against the Broncos and had been Philadelphia's only offensive player to play every snap until he got hurt in the first half.

He had an MRI exam on Monday that revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It's an injury that sometimes takes a full year for recovery, so Jackson may not be ready for the start of next season.

"I don't want to take anything away from losing Jamaal," Reid said. "But at the same time, we're fortunate enough to have guys that have played in games, and big games, that we can fill in those spots."

Right guard Nick Cole replaced Jackson at center, and Max Jean-Gilles took Cole's spot. Mike McGlynn, a second-year pro who has appeared in three career games, becomes the backup center. Stacy Andrews could compete for the starting right guard spot, though he's been inactive the last six games.

Cole had minor issues adjusting to his new position. He snapped the ball too soon at the Eagles 1, but Donovan McNabb fell on it. He also was too slow making a shotgun snap, causing right tackle Winston Justice to jump offside.

"We're fortunate enough to have Nick here," Reid said. "He is a center. This isn't a new territory for him. It's one that he's had a chance to play before and he and Donovan are on the same page. He can make all the calls, he can do the silent counts, he can do the hard count, he knows all of that stuff. That's not a new area for him."

Cole should benefit from working with McNabb all week in practice. The Eagles (11-4) visit Dallas (10-5) on Sunday with the NFC East title at stake.

"I think for myself and Nick, it will be something which we'll work on all throughout the week, and be able to eliminate that going into a tough week against the Cowboys," McNabb said.

Injuries have plagued the Eagles' offensive line since training camp. The projected starters didn't play a single down together.

Philadelphia revamped its line in the offseason, choosing not to re-sign longtime bookend tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan. Shawn Andrews, a two-time Pro Bowl right guard, was expected to move to right tackle. But he landed on injured reserve with a back injury. Winston Justice has started every game at right tackle instead.

The Eagles acquired two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters from Buffalo to replace Thomas. Peters started slow and was bothered by injuries, but has played well recently.

Stacy Andrews, Shawn's brother, was signed to a lucrative free-agent contract, despite coming off ACL surgery. But he's started just two games.

"He keeps getting better with his technique and some of that is sticking his leg in the ground, his surgically repaired leg there," Reid said. "I think he has more trust in that now."

The 29-year-old Jackson signed with the Eagles in 2003 as a rookie free agent out of Delaware State. He became a starter midway through 2005 when Hank Fraley was injured.

Yet I cant get my 4 year old to help me pick up his lego's!

go figure.

I can explain that-- scientists have determined that between the ages of three and nineteen, boys' ears cannot detect sounds that fall in a certain wavelength common to daddy's voices...

They see your lips moving, but have absolutely no idea what you're saying... so they assume that you're listening to an invisible MP3 player, and singing along with the song...

Nick Cole has played center before and he's a bigger load than Jackson. Ratliff should easily outquick him, but Cole is as big as Gurode_just smarter.

Rat should still have the advantage in this matchup I am just not so sure how clear cut of a disadvantage it is. The weakness on the Eags OL should be at RG (the inconsistent & slow as molasses Max Jean-Giles), Spears needs to take advantage of that.

Give the Eagles credit. They draft OL and DL year after year to protect against these inevitable injuries. If Gurode went out, I think it would be season over for the Cowboys. We all know how much we like our backup center. The Eagles will have a dropoff, but not to the level that it would hurt the Cowboys if the same thing happened. We got lucky w/ Free. I don't think anyone would have predicted how little dropoff we would have w/ MC out. If we had the injuries the Eagles had, it would be lights out and everyone would be blaming Romo for another failed December. Point is, we need to give much more attention to the depth on our Offensive and Defensive Line. We are lucky that we just happen to be the healthiest team in the league right now.

I know that, but they continue to draft also. I think we got gun shy after Rogers and Peterman. Injuries played a part in the failure of these guys.

Neither was Jamaal Jackson, Stacey Andrews or Peters. Eags may draft a ton of OL, but they are not even hitting .500 with those first day picks lately. Wasn't Winston Justice considered a bust until this season?

I take comfort in the fact that he will get the best medical care that can be had.

Get well soon, Jamaal.
