I think Lamar's hold up is not so much the money as he will get that. But he wants it fully 100% guaranteed like Watson's deal.
And yes he is loving it.
He started out saying 100% but hasn't he said since then that he would accept unguaranteed but just not the % he was offered? Hurts is 70% guaranteed.

I think he would take this deal in a new york minute!!

That game was over before Purdy went down. Eagles ran all over them and scored TD's the first 3 drives I believe.

But that would be another point. Whether the QB went down or not, Hurts didnt have to do much. Wouldnt it be nice to beat the Niners and the QB not to have to carry the team? How about playing the Giants in the 2nd round. Wouldnt that have been nice? Again, this was what happened to Hurts and the Eagles. Instead we played the Niners in the 2nd.
If the Cowboys hadn't lost to the Jags and Commanders they would have played the Giants in the 2nd round.

Like it or not, this is today’s NFL and it’s probably going to get worse. Hurt’s got a big number but it likely won’t be the biggest for long and Dak will barely crack the top 10 soon. People were shocked at Mahomes contract 3 years ago and today it looks like a bargain. He averages $5M more a year than Daniel Jones just got paid. Everyone knew this decision was coming and you either pay the going rate or you get back in line to find another. The QB’s hold most of the leverage because they know how critical their position is today and how hard it is to replace.

The numbers suggest Dak is a SIGNIFICANTLY better QB in traditional quarterback situations. What Hurts is doing is very hard to replicate across time because he is very limited as a pocket passer going through traditional reads.
I'm not convinced of that but it's a difficult \ impossible comparison at this point because of how differently their teams function. Either way, I think Hurts has improved every year as a passer and he makes teams pay when they adjust for the running attack. Running QB's who can't really play any pocket QB are horrible investments. Any QB who relies on his legs significantly is more prone to injury. But a QB who can play high level pocket QB and use his legs effectively when needed are golden. He hasn't reached that level yet but I think its fair to say he's trending that way. Time will tell if their investment pays off.

The salary cap usually benefits from large contracts the first couple of years.

Teams can also push it down the road again with someone that's a franchise player like your quarterback, but ultimately it catches up to you and you have to deal with it.

Personally, I would dedicate a year every 4-5 years to "fixing the cap situation" which would allow teams to trade veterans for draft picks, release high salary (for that season) veterns, then have a bad season to get a high draft pick and come back strong the next season with big free agent signings and draft picks.

That is the best strategy for the current NFL salary cap system. It is not great for fans every year though as it only creates short windows for success, but if your coaching and front office are good you can make a Super Bowl run every 3-4 years which fans would appreciate if that happens regularly.
NFL agents learn from this and adjust.
Same way Hurts just got the no trade clause to prevent being Wentz'd.

Tear down takes more than a year as Eagles showed previously.

And the Eagles are somehow now projected to be 100 million under the cap next year.
Pretty good situation for the Eagles. Jalen still has one more cheap year on his rookie deal (2023) and the cap hit will be low for the first year of his extension (2024).

By the time the big money starts in 2025 the NFL will be 2 seasons in on the new TV deal so the cap i'm imagining will be at least 35-45 million more then it currently is

Yeah, our guy gets 40 and people are STILL ranting. Hurts gets 50, and the vast majority says “good job”, “deserving”, “way to go”, “Eagles are brilliant”, etc. Yeah, I know, Hurts played in a SB, but it’s a team game, isn’t it?

ROFL! no. it isn't at all.
Eagles had 33M under next year's cap.
They are adding to both this year's cap and next year's with this deal.

They cannot get any void year relief because he has 6 years' worth of actual contract seasons.

The Eagles reliance upon void year deals are going to kill them.
Its why they lost the starters they have thus far all BEFORE paying Hurts.

Most NFL teams keep their powder dry and flip switches when required to get cap relief. Philly is using that cap relief day 1.

This is gonna up an ESPN outline the lines story about cap mismanagement.

It depends on how likely the incentive is to be reached. If it’s a very likely incentive (make the opening day roster, be healthy for x amount of games), then the rule is the team needs to have that amount of cap space available during the season for when he meets it.

If it’s a less likely incentive (reach 4000 yards passing, team wins NFCCG), then you don’t have to have the cap space reserved that year, as the incentive will impact the next year’s cap
Thanks!
