Even those 2 haven’t won anything yet ( Burrow came close in 2021) , having those superior QB talent is only not enough as you need OL to protect them and a decent defense not to give up the leads.

I know it is the market rate but it hampers other areas of the team . Agree for winning when they are in rookie deals.
I agree about needing to build a solid team around any QB. The problem is that QB contracts are making that harder and harder every passing year.

I think the QB market will recorrect. It is just a matter of how much more disconnected from reality the current contracts will get before front offices finally say enough is enough. QB salary inflation has far outstripped salary cap growth in the last 10 years.

Paying a player like Jalen Hurts (good, not great QB) $51 mil/year is absolutely mind blowing and really shows how out of control this all has become.

Let’s just pray that Hurts incredible season was just a fluke….but I don’t think so.

the light clearly came on for him. He’s gonna be a handful for the next couple years
The dude is a stud running the ball and an average passer. He is a good (great at times) player, but I cannot remember a single instance of a QB with his playing style spending more than 2 or 3 seasons at the top of his game. Hurts does not just have running as a tool; it is critical to enabling the rest of his game and allows his coaching staff to maximize his passing ability.

Similarly to what we've learned from the RB position, there is a shelf life on an NFL player and how many hits they can take before becoming ineffective. This is especially true for QBs that run 15-20 times a game. He already has dealt with some injury problems in his short career and there is no reason to think that problem will go away as he continues to run up his career carries #.

Rush was a unrestricted free agent recently, yet he only signed for 2 years, 5 million.

That should tell you all you need to know about Rush and how the league views him.
He has more value for the Cowboys

The QB we have just led us to back to back playoff seasons for the first time since 06 and 07 and our first road playoff win in 30 years against Tom Brady who we were 0-7 against. Our situation could be a lot worse and it would be if some of you were running the team.
The guy we had rode the defense that led the league in turnovers the last 2 years . . . and Tampa didn't even have a winning record

You think the Eagles made the SB because of Hurts?
They didn't make it in spite of him, that is certain. By all reports from the talking heads on the tube it is being called team friendly. Regardless he is kinda slotted about where he should be. Bigger contracts will be out soon enough for others. Hopefully he continues to improve like he did this past season, it will not be because he didn't work at it given his work ethic. Not sure they won a single game that he missed this past season so there is that.

A QB will sustain more injuries in the pocket than when running the ball. If a running QB is smart, he will see the field in front of him and either get down or out of bounds. But a QB in the pocket will often get blindsided and crushed. A running QB is different than an RB, a RB will lower his shoulder to get those few extra yards, whereas a QB will not.

Just when you thought Jerry was the dumbest GM in the NFL....along comes Roseman with this deal.
Mehhh Hurts at least shows up and plays in big games. Dak goes into choke mode. Im a little shocked they payed Hurt's that much but the guy just performs unlike someone else.

I don’t have a dog in the hunt…I just think the no talent comments are silly. What should be concerning is that Dak hasn’t seemed to regain his form since his injury for whatever reason. Here are his QBR rankings by year:

2016 - #3….. 22 all time
2017 - #4….. 65 all time
2018 - #17
2019 - #4……47 all time
2020 - #4 (pre injury)…..38 all time
2021 - #11
2022 - #12

If he can find his old form, we will be fine but something has been missing the last few years.
Most certainly Dak's 2020 leg injury has affected him during 2021 & 2022, but his Oline (both 2021 & 2022), plus the weapons around him (2022) have been lacking. Fix the Oline and get Dak better weapons, that should improve Dak's QBR.

Yeah geez, the 49ers sure have sucked recently using this very strategy! I sure am glad the Cowboys don't think the same way as those losers over in SF!
You must of forgot they signed Jimmy G to what then was the richest QB contract several years ago. That’s about the time the money started skyrocketing for QBs. If Brock Purdy continues to develop, they’re eventually going to have to pay him a ton of money and it’s not like SF has been winning Super Bowls in recent years. Granted, they’ve gotten closer than the Cowboys but they’ve gone longer than we have without a ring.
