You must of forgot they signed Jimmy G to what then was the richest QB contract several years ago. That’s about the time the money started skyrocketing for QBs. If Brock Purdy continues to develop, they’re eventually going to have to pay him a ton of money and it’s not like SF has been winning Super Bowls in recent years. Granted, they’ve gotten closer than the Cowboys but they’ve gone longer than we have without a ring.
The same they did for Ryan, Stafford and Wilson . The list goes on. It’s called Market Price for a Franchise QB which doesn’t necessarily mean Elite QB.

You think they make it with Gardner Minshew? Of course they made it because of Hurts.
He has no clue what he’s talking about. Hurts was in the MVP conversation all season. Philly only lost one regular season game with him. He was a big reason why they got to the Super Bowl. If it was up to fans like the guy you’re responding to we would be stuck with Gardner Minshew or one of these other QBs that are bouncing around the league that can’t win consistently. I stopped wasting my time with fans like him.

Once again underscoring how crazy the QB market is. Surely fans understand that the scarcity of QB talent in this league is dictating market prices. Not what QBs have acccomplished.
Yep. Maybe more fans will grasp the meaning of Market Price.

And it’s actually always been this way to an extent for Franchise QB’s which doesn’t necessarily mean Elite QB’s.

My thoughts exactly….I’m glad to see them marry him and kill their cap situation….I still don’t think he will be good for long or without major injury plus without an amazing surrounding cast….lol

Surprised. I didn't think from what I've read about Howie the deal for Hurts would be this large.

Kind of take that comment back. From what I'm reading since Hurts was the first signed, even to this kind of contract, guess it makes sense because it could have been even more inflated.

So they would be a 4 win team without him? What record?
Maybe 11 wins. But even 12 means Dallas has the tie breaker, wins the division, Philly has to play in the first round and at Dallas in the second, as SF now has the #1 seed.

You yourself proclaim Dak as Philly’s bane, so either we don’t get past Dallas in the second round, or we require our MVP candidate to beat you. Either way it shows Hurts was a necessity to make the SB

What’s frustrating for fans is there really isn’t a wide pay gap if any between a Franchise QB that is Elite and one that’s not. At least not initially when they are signing a new contract.

Franchise QB’s ,Elite or not , have similar value to a team despite whatever effects it has managing Cap.

Hurts had 100 yards passing when they killed SF. All he had to do was hand the ball off. Didnt even break a sweat. Let us know when Dak has that kind of team around him.
Maybe if Dak would of beaten the Jags and GB they would of won the division and had some extra rest like the Eagles. Once Purdy got hurt the Eagles decides to just pound the 49ers defense into submission knowing they can't score.

To teams it doesn’t really matter. Hurts represents being a contender which justifies Market Price QB which doesn’t necessarily translate to Elite QB.

In the NFL there are basically two types of teams. You’re either looking for a Franchise QB or you have one.

Now the closer they are toElite the easier it makes it to build around them.

Yea but then who expected Rush to win 4 games? We could have easily been 8 or 9 win team this year. Like most years when our QB goes down a few games .

But we had a top defense earlier in the year. Which we didn’t have in second half of the year.

Howie...considered one of the better GM's in the League supposedly...signed off on this contract.

What are the anti-Jerry or anti-pay players school of thought left with when one of the best GM's signs a QB contract like this? "Even good GM's can make mistakes"? "I would blaze the trail and not pay more than 15% of cap...even for Prime Tom Brady"?

Not trying to start an internet war with the trolls at all. But sounds like Jerry deserves a little bit of an apology. QB's are in the driver seat...and they know that GMs/FOs have to play it safe and be risk adverse and go with bus drivers over a crap shoot rookie.

What games has Dak gone into choke mode?

I'll wait...
He choked in both 49er playoff games. He choked against the Rams in the playoffs. Don't try and sell me that 4th quarter crap that he almost won the game. All those short possessions in the first half killed the Cowboys defense. How about the Denver and Cardinals game leading up to the 49 er loss. Denver again along with Atlanta, Eagles, Chargers, Jets and GB the year the Eagles won the SB. How about Buffalo on Thanksgiving and Chicago following that game a few years ago.

Not really. If Jethro had extended Dak after his 3rd season he could signed him for less.

baseball !!! you are talking about Baseball!!!> baseball that is.

did you see the supporting cast Hurts had this past year.
If you prefer football, did you think Troy Aikman was a HoFer after his first two years? My point stands, you really don't know.

Hurts supporting cast? I remember reading some delusional posts posts that Gallup>>Smith, AJ Brown was overrated, Miles Sanders is always hurt, and Steele is better than Lane Johnson (I hope that poster got into rehab). Is Emmitt really a better back than Barry? I mean, Emmitt had the best o-line in football for years while Barry had Lomas Brown and four pieces of swiss cheese. Emmitt ran in a run-oriented offense while Barry was in Mouse Davis's run and shoot. How's that for supporting cast?

Hurts balled last year. We have seen plenty of QB's with very good supporting casts look like dog poo or choke on the field when it counted. Tony Romo anyone? Aaron Rodgers? Justin Herbert? Matt Ryan? Donovan McNabb, who literally choked in the Super Bowl?

The guy we had rode the defense that led the league in turnovers the last 2 years . . . and Tampa didn't even have a winning record
Our defense has had issues stopping the run ever since he got here. If it wasn’t for some of the takeaways, we wouldn’t be able to get some of the teams we faced off the field. Our defense coughed up a 14 point lead to a bad Green Bay team and a 17 point lead to a Jacksonville team that hadn’t arrived yet. We lost to a Green Bay team and a Washington team that ended up with a losing record and Jacksonville had a losing record when they beat us. We helped them get into the playoffs. Gardner Minshew put up over 330 yards and darn near beat us in the final seconds.

Our defense allowed a rookie QB on a bad Washington team to look like an old pro in the season finale. Howell threw a TD with his first NFL pass. Lol Our defense wasn’t that good heading into the playoffs and had dropped to 12th in the rankings after sniffing the top five early in the season. It made no difference that Tampa had a losing record, the Cowboys hadn’t won a road playoff game in 30 years and had never beaten Tom Brady. Once you get to the playoffs, it’s a new season and your regular season record makes no difference. Three of the Cowboys five losses last season were on the road.

ROFL! no. it isn't at all.
Eagles had 33M under next year's cap.
They are adding to both this year's cap and next year's with this deal.

They cannot get any void year relief because he has 6 years' worth of actual contract seasons.

The Eagles reliance upon void year deals are going to kill them.
Its why they lost the starters they have thus far all BEFORE paying Hurts.

Most NFL teams keep their powder dry and flip switches when required to get cap relief. Philly is using that cap relief day 1.

This is gonna up an ESPN outline the lines story about cap mismanagement.
Curious what the over/under will be on how many times that contract gets re-worked. I bet @ least 4....and I'm taking the over.

I just can't wait to see the Eagles implode after they figure out he sucks. Just watch him put on more weight than Mcflabb.

Jello Hurts....

Hefty Hurts...

Junkie Hurts..
