Eagles re-sign Jalen Hurts

I would never pay a QB in today's market unless they were a bonafide future hall of fame type talent like Burrow or Herbert.

Pick one in the first round, play 4 years with them, pick up the 5th year option, turn and burn if they are good but not great. Build a contending roster around the player and just slot in the next 1st rounder. After enough tries, you should have gotten lucky and gotten one of those top guys or have won a Superbowl with a good starter on a cheap rookie deal.

Why NFL GMs are too afraid to emulate the SanFran model is very confusing to me.
:hammer:

It will be interesting to see what the Eagles do with A.J. Brown. They can choose to pay him, but with Hurts’ contract that really starts to pinch the rest of the roster.
AJ already got paid. He only just finished up his rookie deal last year and will be a low cap hit for a couple seasons before the restructures start

Lol. I am sorry, but I don’t think this has any validity whatsoever. In order to collude they would actually have to talk and agree to reset the market. Moreover anti-trust laws are modified for football in the first place.

What is likely to happen, at some point, is for teams to decide to stop stupidly paying average QBs top money. The Ravens made the right play—they gave the non-exclusive franchise tag to Lamar and no team is going to give up two picks AND pay Lamar the going rate. I have been saying it for years. That is the right play.

There are probably not 5 QBs in the NFL that are worth two first round picks AND a massive deal. That type of deal “guts” your team.

It will be interesting to see what the Eagles do with A.J. Brown. They can choose to pay him, but with Hurts’ contract that really starts to pinch the rest of the roster.
Wasn't commenting on the rightness or wrongness of it. Just saying I think that is what the union would do as a first strike.

This is life in the NFL might as well deal with it! If you want to have a good QB that helps you win games you’re going to have to pay a steep price.
This is my reply to you

Dak’s a good dude and a good QB.

Unfortunately paying good QBs like they’re elite is a recipe for not winning Superbowls.

Even if Dak won it, and I hope he does, he would be an outlier.

You would think one of these guys would accidentally win it but you just can’t take up that much cap % and expect to win a title.
The best parts of Dak and Jalen is that they represent their teams well in the board room. What Dak did with the Kapernick controversy made him a Cowboy for life with the Joneses. Top 15 quarterback talent just does not grow on trees. As talented as Lamar is neither the Cowboys or Eagles would take him over Dak and Jalen.

Kyler Murray is third on that list and has led the Cardinals to the playoffs once. He had possibly the worst playoff performance I’ve ever seen by a QB against the Rams two years ago.

Hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! The Eagles are screwed!!!! They have barely any cap space to begin with. $51 mil per year?????? Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Lol posts about lamb get deleted, but this trash is in the Cowboys section? Can the eagles fans here go back to their forum? Lol
Why did they delete that. We were having a nice discussion concerning Diggs.

Possibly.

But Hurts ascended to different levels as soon as they drafted Smith and traded for Brown.

Cam played with guys like Jericho Cotchery, Kelvin Benjamin, Torrey Smith etc
Steve Smith
Greg Olsen

Cam is a better athlete, Hurts is a better QB.

Except San Fran did not even emulate the so called "San Fran" model. They traded for and paid Jimmy G a then record deal. The fact that he got injured so often that they had to draft a new one does not change that.

No he played great in the Super Bowl.

He’s a really good fit in that system. But I think a lot of mobile QBs who don’t make stupid decisions would be great in that system.

Teams were literally begging Hurts to throw this year. That’s how bad it got.

Also, Philly played out front in most of their games. They didn’t need Hurts to go win games by actually playing like a traditional QB very often.

Even if he was a truly elite QB it would be difficult for them to ever win a title with this contract.
having a top 3 defense and a strong running game helps a lot

I'm sorry but this is just an absolutely ludicrous contract for what Hurts brings to the table. He is a good NFL starter with a unique skillset that requires a good amount of talent around him to have his potential truly maximized. I value that anywhere between $25-40 million (go ahead and move it to the top end since they did just make the Superbowl). $51 mil/year for Hurts' services is going to be a problem for the Eagles in the future.

The Dak contract is bad, but can you possibly view it as the death blow that many make it out to be when players like Danny Dimes and Jalen Hurts are making $40mil/year and $51/year annually in our own division?
Daks contract is a bargain considering what he's paid compared to others. Might I remind everyone that Hurts is 0-2 against Dak.
