Dallas needs to start playing the game to. Schedule Vacarro and Boston for visits and see if the price comes down.
Exactly. I want Boston but I would take Vacarro. Dang, right now I might even get excited about signing one of Jerry's bargain basement free agents. I need something to show our front office has a pulse.

Yup. Gotta show Seattle we aren’t only counting on Thomas. I think Earl can really help to. Go in and tell them you’re only going to Dallas. Time for him to put his money where his mouth is too

I read that ppl dont want to give ET a big contract because of his age but are wanting to give zack martin big money. Newsflash Et is ONE year older than Martin. So the age argument isnt really valid imho.
This is what boggles my mind. Thomas likely has the same trade value as Martin. So do people think the Cowboys are better off with pick #19 over Zack Martin if they had to choose?

Give me Zack Martin or Earl Thomas over our 1st any day.

So right champ, all this can be avoided if the Earl the third does one thing..& I wouldn't rule out someone from our organization tipping him on to this proclamation. " I won't sign an extension with no team except Dallas..other players have done it& there goes Seattle without a guarantee that interested teams wouldn't be able to get an extension, their Ransom becomes null& void. They can either keep a disgruntled employee or call Jerry back& said u were right let us get that 4th round pick u previously spoke of;'-)

People would try and counter with the safety position is different than guard, but we’ve seen plenty of safety’s play into their mid 30’s and play at a high level

Which player/position has the better chance to still be performing at an "all-pro" level 5-6 years from now?

That's the reason why a 27 year-old all-pro guard is worth more than a 28 year old all-pro safety (that hunts for contact, while being undersized). Had this discussion occurred 3 years ago, it would point towards Thomas, but he's long in "dog years" at his position compared to Martin.

Exactly...............now if ET is just wanting to make bank and doesn't care what uniform he wears, then this obviously is not going to happen.

However, if he is serious about wanting to play for Dallas, then he needs to start applying the pressure himself with Seattle and refuse to sign an extension with anybody but Dallas. Nobody is going to trade anything for ET if it is a one year rental.

Elite Safeties usually play at a high level into their mid 30's. Charles Woodson made the Pro Bowl when 39. Rod Woodson 37. Though Ed Reed had a big drop off when he was 34 and Troy Palamalu 32. Thomas is 28, so I'd expect to have elite Safety play for the next 4-5 years.

Seattle is moving Thomas, there are too many signs to that effect.

1. They have signed 3 safeties this week (McDougald, Alexander, King). McDougald is listed as a FS on their website. They have Thompson and Hill who they drafted in the 3 and 4th rounds last year. That’s 5 safeties with assets used to acquire them.

2. They’re obviously not willing to sign him to an extension because if they were, they wouldn’t be shopping him.

3. It was initially reported that they wanted a 1 for him. Then that changed to a 1 and a 3. Dallas didn’t want to pay the 1, Seattle tries to apply pressure by leaking they have multiple teams interested at the cost of a 1 and a 3.

4. My guess Earl will be traded for a 2 and a 4, and right now it seems that team will be Dallas.

We better not give up even a 2 for a player that is in the last year of his contract..
You don’t trade 2’s to rent any player for a year.

A trade doesn’t happen without the extension be agreed upon prior to. If Dallas trades for Earl it will be with 3-4 year extension involved.

Still doesn’t change that you are trading a 2 for a guy who you can sign a year from now for free.

Righteous, I've said from the beginning it's evident..it's about paperwork now, that's essentially what u were eluding to abt.. there's no activity as far as offers or inquiries with any other teams but yet they have (Seattle) spoken with several teams about him. It's never just one thing in these matters but I assume one of the things that play a factor in why it's not just so cookie cut& dry& just a simple, normal trade is the third creating that spectacle when initially got the wheels in motion by hunting Garrett down & telling him what to do on National TV on Christmas Eve.John Schneider, Paul Allen& the front office hierarchy are proud, stubborn, respectable people so their gonna chagrin on situation that their getting played or the perception is their getting played. So that's a factor in this equation, both sides don't wanna give off the impression their fleecing each other sorta say.If the third is serious about playing for us he could or better yet his representation say they will not sign an extension with any team besides us. Now the so called market he has vying for his services are dried up& are slim to none because of the respective team not having any guarantees their going to be able to extend the player, so the request of 1's &3's that they speak becomes 4's& 5's..& Maybe we'll throw in a player (Scandrick) but ultimately the third gonna be a Cowboy& that u could Trust.
