Well you should be good if you are about $12M over the cap. Amari was a good player here, nothing more. For $20M plus per year you need to be more. I’m glad we unloaded his contract and I’m glad we didn’t trade for Cooks. Team building in a cap world requires not just talent, but a positive talent to $’s ratio. Amari had the first but not the second.

If you’re going to call out people for underperforming their contracts, be sure to include Dak, Zeke, Tyron Smith, and Dalton Schultz. None of those guys are earning their pay right now.

It does count. It’s why his stats are as good as they are. If he spent his whole career playing with Davis Mills his stats wouldn’t have been as good.

Like Cooper’s 2020 season? We can go back and forth on this point all day. It’s a waste of time.

Correct and in the appropriate threads those points are made too. This is a Cooper discussion (in a cooks thread) why would bring that up here? I have no agenda, just talking Cowboys

You’re right. I’m just saying that if we’re labeling players as underperforming their contracts, there’s a long list.

And I’ll speculate that if Cooper were still here, several of those players I mentioned might not be struggling as much either.

When Cooper was here, the Cowboys offense was at the top of the league, right?

He played his best football with Prescott.

Made a few Pro Bowls before that with Carr too as I recall.

But yes, I thought the Cooper-Prescott pairing was good for both guys and I wished they’d stayed together.

Yes for a couple of those years and while I don’t deny there is a correlation, I’m also not so sure it was because of Cooper. Again, I’m not saying he isn’t a good player, because I think he is and this idea that has come up the last year or so that he isn’t a great guy is also something I disagree with. He always seemed like a good guy to me. I’m just saying that in a cap world we couldn’t afford to pay him $20M this year and next. If he were a little better I’d say pay him and do without elsewhere, but we have to do without somewhere and those other guys you mentioned had more dead money and the time is not yet right to move on from them. Schultz of course we could have moved on without a cap hit, but at the time we needed to make our decision on him we had no choice but to tag him or sign someone else. Now that we see the kids I think we may move on in the off-season unless his contract demands come down from what we perceived them to be this year.

Exactly my points

Little Enos has paid out several bad contracts and something (and someone) had to give for his cap blunders. That was Cooper.

And they used half of that money to ‘franchise tag’ Schultz. Blunder #2.

And now come the inevitable derisive and minimizing fan comments about yet another player that’s not here anymore. A tale as old as time. Better when they arrive, lesser when they leave.

Do what I do: When a player leaves the team, stop caring. This sort of thing happens on every team in the NFL.

Just listening to Hangin' with the Boys. He says at 4.15 mark that it would have taken a first to land him.

Sound's very much like we were prepared to give this up.

I'm speechless!
If it would have taken a 1st, and we were willing to give up a 1st, yet it didn't happen ... ?

I’m sure that helps you to feel better about the situation.

But I’m reminded every time I see the offense being inept vs the one that was leading the league.

I can’t just cover my eyes and ears and pretend it didn’t happen.

And I honestly don’t want to, I really dislike willful ignorance.

I never felt bad about the situation. It's over. Nothing will ever change that. Things out of my control have zero effect on me.
I'm not trying to change your mind, feel free to live in the past and subscribe to "what ifs"
We're 6-2.

I’m living in the present actually, where the formerly great Cowboys offense was averaging less than 20 points a game prior to Chicago. And even after a 42-point output sit at a middle of the pack 14th in scoring.

What I’m not doing is being willfully ignorant as to the reasons why.

You can “feel free” to do that.

Be as condescending as you want, couldn't possibly care less. It's half way through the season and you're still comparing it to last season.
Have fun with that.

Look in the mirror at “condescending “. Things go both ways. Show a little personal accountability too.

What's with you and quotes? So if you read again, I couldn't care less about your condescension. My responses were when you were actually talking about football
Lol, I stayed on subject, you're just flexing. Don't like my opinion, too bad. Don't read it. I truly hope you recover from Cooper leaving Dallas.

I’m fine with it. And for accuracy Cooper didn’t ‘leave Dallas’, they traded him. I don’t have to alter history or pretend things didn’t happen. My fandom doesn’t require blinders.

What do you mean? Cooper was Jerry's best acquisition ever. Cooper was worth the 1st round pick that we got for him. But Jerry & son messed up by trading him for peanuts.

Now were left without a true #1.

Best trade and worst trade all in one player.

What? It's the same thing, now you're just trolling. If Cooper "Isn't here" than he "left."
Good lord. Save the blinder lecture dude.
