Edge Rusher--How many go before 28?

I was reading Sturms article on edge rushers and based on what he is saying there are 6 edge rushers who are good enough for Dallas to use #28 on. I think he said two were definitely out of our reach. Of the others, most of them will be out of reach as well.

How many edge rushers are likely to go before our pick in the first round? It is always a concern about teams behind you leap frogging in front of you and picking one up.

We might just be far enough back to miss out on all of the ones worth pulling the trigger on at #28.
Crazy thing is I could see half of the picks of the entire first round could be DB or DE, I count at least 10 dbs that could go in the first in addition to the 6 or 7 Edge guys...

DB's

M Hooker
J Adams
J Peppers
B Baker
M Lattimore
S Jones
G Conelley
T Tabor
Q Wilson
M Humpfrey
T White
A Jackson
Not to mention guys real close who I wouldnt be shocked if they went late first like
J Louis
D King
and the guy from clem (drawing a blank"

That could help push an edge guy our way

Just freaking sign one in free agency already. Good Lord, the Giants spent 200mil upgrading their defense, you'd think Dallas could spring for one freaking pass-rusher.

We're looking at a last of the Mohicans 1st round again which was the rationale behind drafting Travis Frederick. An all pro Mohican.

My worry is Jerry blinks watching them go off the board and trades up for one.

It is funny that you say that. I have been thinking at #28 we may get the very last highly rated edge rusher. I can also see a team leap frogging us to get one before we do. I am not in support of trading up and giving up much to do it.

Last year, three edge rushers were taken before the 28th pick. In 2015, four ends were taken and three OLBs (not sure which of them were 3-4 OLBs). In 2014, four were taken. In 2013, five were taken. So we may be on the edge of the range to get one depending on how the draft stacks up at other positions.

This is an incredibly deep class at DE and DB. You don't trade up in that environment, you trade down if possible to acquire more picks.

Yes, I think it will be close. It will probably be a toss up if we will get the last of the top tier ends if we want to go that route. That is a lot of ends to go before our pick which would historically bode well for us. The problem is that the talent pool is shallow in some areas, including QB and OT, which is going to force someone's hand if they go BPA.

The thing we may have going for us is that the overall edge rusher depth may encourage someone to reach a little bit with a pick at another position ahead of our pick thinking that they can get a decent edge pass rusher later in the draft. I guess it all depends on the grades.

Good year to need a DE. Been seeing a lot of people saying it is the deepest position in this years draft

If one of the better names falls to the low 20s, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Early days to be getting your panties in a bunch. The QB's will rise like always and the combine will separate the wheat from the chaff.

Wouldn't it be great for the draft to fall the way we would like it to?

My guess is Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas and Taco Charlton are all gone in top 15. Dereck Barnett and Takkarist McKinney are gone by the time we hit #25. Which means we will be holding our breath hoping no one takes Charles Harris. If someone does, we *could* take Carl Lawson, maybe even Demarcus Walker but I would likely trade down

Teams also know we are desperate for DEs , they may trade up in front of us .

I would trade down to the 4th, then I would draft the best 2 DE's in this draft. :D

If they want one that is on the board when we draft, that is likely. Atlanta is right behind us and will probably be in the market for one.

Drop the mic and walk off the stage, LP. Although I still hold out hope for Tapper. I know, I am a glutton for punishment.
