whichever one they like that can be traded for or signed as a FA, 2017's version of Olivier Vernon

So who on the market is as good as Vernon? Also keep in mind, the Giants paid him $17 million per for 8.5 sacks. Also keep in mind that we won't be adding Damon Harrison and Janoris Jenkins to take pressure off of this mysterious player

Teams also know we are desperate for DEs , they may trade up in front of us .

And depending on how our board looks versus the way the draft falls, we may need to move up 2-4 spots. I think we can afford to give up a late pick.

Take BPA at 28.
If teams begin to reach for a DE, good sound players will fall to the 28th spot.

Zach Cunningham (LB) out of Vandy, if available would be better value than the 5th or 6th best DE.
The guy was a playmaker for the Commodores -- he was a tackling machine & he forced fumbles.

Our early 90s teams would have been in the same position we are now without the impact Charles Haley provided. He put us over the top and was "the" missing link to a dynasty. We need our next Haley and I'm afraid he is not going to be sitting there at #28. We need to get a disruptive pass rusher via free agency and draft the BPA at #28.

Anybody you draft that becomes elite will command the big bucks after a few years, especially pass rushers. If you want to have one then you will have to pay.

I don't think we will wait until our current first pick rolls around to claim an edge rusher... I see us trading up.

I agree, but typically the guys that hit the market aren't elite. Vernon certainly isn't and I'm not sure if there will be a better pass rusher than him on the market. Chandler Jones and Melvin Ingram will more than likely be franchised, JPP just isn't the same as he was when he had 10 fingers and Nick Perry may just be a one year wonder.

thats not a good way to look at production,Vernon is a monster at stopping the run,he gives Tyron fits because he is always in the right place to make the stop.He is a complete De who never takes a snap off.I would love JPP at LDE on this team but doubt we even consider him.

IF most are gone before we are on the clock, I do not want a Tank Lawrence like scenario - thinking he was the last edge rusher of that draft, so they gave up our 2nd and 3rd to move up. Bad...
As others have said, there are 2 OLB/DE with 2nd round grades (for now) who could be impact players. Reddick and Cunningham. CB's etc. Pretty much top 4 rounds seam to have DE's (I really like Basham ) out of Ohio as our 2nd rounder, but again its early days yet.

Man, I love draft time and all the "what if's"

If Damon Harrison were to go down, his run stopping ability would go unnoticed

We dont have 5th Rd pick this year, trading up will be a bad idea unless we get some picks for Romo.

I was reading Sturms article on edge rushers and based on what he is saying there are 6 edge rushers who are good enough for Dallas to use #28 on. I think he said two were definitely out of our reach. Of the others, most of them will be out of reach as well.

How many edge rushers are likely to go before our pick in the first round? It is always a concern about teams behind you leap frogging in front of you and picking one up.

We might just be far enough back to miss out on all of the ones worth pulling the trigger on at #28.

I really believe that the jones will trade out of the first round and try to pick up a extra third or a combination of a pick next year or an extra fourth and fifth round picks.

If we don't trade up for Garrett, I hope Taco Charlton is there at 28. I like his size to play the 4-3 DE and his get off his outstanding.

If these guys are off the board by the time Dallas picks, do we trade down to get Watt? I like his upside more than Walker.
