Book what? If you put RW at OLB he will be destroyed, remember he has to go up against 6'6 330 pd tackles, that won't work.

you have to go up against 330 lb. OGs in the middle, what's the difference?

It is hard to believe some of our own fans don't realize how great RW is.

Roy is the envy of all teams in the league, he is a playmaker in the secondary, let some foe rag on him. His defensive stats stand up and blow over anyone in the entire league.

He changes games in our favor all the time. He is the best at his position in the entire league. BAR NONE, the best SS in the league, name one better, heck name any FS or SS, he is the absolute best in the NFL>wakeup. Bill just said today in his PC that RW played the best player in the entire secondary yesterday.

Who would you rather have playing in place of RW?

:hammer:

not to mention 2 of his INTs have iced games

Nobody is going to argue that Roy makes a lot of plays at SS.
Its the fact he seems to also give up a lot of big plays, or not come in and breakup plays other guys have screwed up that concern me.

Can anyone honestly dispute the two above sentences?

no, but name me a safety who doesn't screw up in coverage as much as make plays? or one who makes more plays in coverage for that matter

You need to also look at what was going on in the play.

There was an article that pointed out that he was providing help on someone elses's busted play.

Yes, he's messed up a couple of times, but the guy isn't a WR. If he were catching the ball all the time, he'd be a WR. Come to think about it, RW might just be as good as T.O. at the WR position.

:laugh2:

RW probably has a higher catch percentage of passes thrown his way

btw, that busted play he was helping out on was Newman's

Are they safeties who were proclaimed, at draft time, the greatest defensive back to come out of college in the past 20 years? The next Ronnie Lott?
Did any of those other safeties look like they were going to live up to that billing their rookie season and then level off and never make as many big plays in a season again?
I was a big Roy fan but I am just sick of seeing him make costly screw ups at what seems like every other game.
And true, other safeties screw up in coverage but Roy's mistakes always seem to end up in game changing, momentum swinging plays for the other team.

ok, so he's not Ronnie Lott? so what, get over it, those comparisons happened 3 years ago

and are you sick of seeing him make plays in coverage? as many, if not, more, than he gets beat?

and I know his mistakes have been costly, but his plays have been huge too, 2 INTs of his iced games, hell, he's the only DB on our team making plays on the ball

give ROy a real FS *uh-hum* Mr. Keith Davis step-up, Pat Watkins grow up, and then let's talk, and you can watch him play like Polamalu, the way he's supposed to be playing, not back in coverage 75% of the time

Those comparisons happened for a reason. People, including Ronnie Lott who said he was fantastic, don't just say that about anybody.
Face it, other than his rookie year Roy hasn't lived up to expectations.
And no one but Roy created those expectations.

I just don't believe Roy makes as many big plays in coverage as he gives up.

Flawed comparison. If Newman wasn't so good people would actually throw at him and give him the chance to make plays on balls.
Roy's ints were nice plays where he swooped in and made the play on someone else's coverage.
How about when he is the primary cover guy? Like when he goes up against Shockey? I had to admit it but Shockey beats Roy nearly every time they play. Inexcusable for someone with Roy's rep.

Cop out. Roy apologists are going to be saying that until the day he retires no matter who lines up with him. I used to say the same thing but if you are as great as Roy is supposed to be he should be able to dominate with a high schooler at FS.

look it up if you have to, it's right there, notice deflections and INT count together as plays in coverage

ROy's rep isn't coverage, so what's the problem? and Roy's INTs have come when he recognized where the ball was going, and got into position to make the play, which last I heard was a requirement of coverage

maybe you should lower your expectations a few thousand notches

ROy makes as many plays in coverage as the next safety, in fact, more than any other safety this year, and gets beat just as often, prove otherwise, and you may have a case, and no S can match-up one-on-one w/ SHockey, noone

Hey Summer,
Roy Williams is the best 4-3 WOLB playing safety in the NFL.

RW does not stink...with elam teams would throw over the middle all the time and the pass would be completed way to often, roy is there waiting to jar the ball loose keep him there. I will say he is overrated but what has elam done? i remember him in preseason.

Are we a little spoiled to excellent SS play? Elam did not look that good during pre-season, at times I doubted he would make the team, he looked stiff and missed tackles. If Elam started then all the "Roy doubters" and the "Woodson Haters" would realize how blessed Dallas has been at the SS position for about 15 years now.

You know, you are probably right. Get beyond Roy and Polamalu and who else is there?
Not exactly the Golden Age of the SS in the NFL right now.

:laugh2: i'm not gonna debate whether or not Roy needs to be benched because i gotta admit im on da fence but ELAM???????? ARE U SERIOUS???????? :laugh2: You know what i answered my own question on Roy, No he should not get benched because our backups are so bad that they will make Roy looks like Deion Sanders out there in coverage.

did you even read my post?
I wasn't comparing the two, just saying after those two there aren't many notable strong safeties in the league.

I was just reading Mosley's blog over at the DMN. He quoted Bill as saying today he felt Roy played better than anyone else in the secondary yesterday.

Just putting it out there.

Then again, before yesterday's game, Bill said AH (along with Ware) was playing the best on defense this season.
