I love Emmitt. Wore #22 when I was playing tailback in peewee football.

That in mind, I gotta point out the disconnect. First- Jerry loves Zeke. No one doubts that. Second- salary cap is real. So how can you lament a salary cap casualty and then say, "go get your money because they have no love for you"? "Go get your money" is what causes the cap problems.

The team gave him the opportunity to go out and earn what he can. Does anyone, especially Zeke think he'd be better off working for league minimum?

Emmitt Smith is the last person who should comment on this issue. He stayed here three years too long.

Go away, Emmitt. Back to your trash pile.
Easy on the disrespect to the greatest running back and certainly the greatest back in Cowboys history. Emmitt has done way too much for the Dallas Cowboys to disrespect him. I don’t agree with Emmitt he’s just emotional on this and not understanding this is a business. Cowboys paid Zeke way more than teams pay running backs today so they certainly took care of Zeke during his time here.

Maybe two years too long but not three years. He had just over 1200 yards and 9 TDs in 2000. He wasn’t about to get released after that season especially with Troy Aikman just being released. He still had a 1000 yard season the following year but you could see the numbers were dwindling. I really don’t understand why you sound so bitter toward him. He was one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise and was the main reason the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 90s. You must be one of those that’s still upset about his diamond among trash comment.

This is just an emotional response. The play didn't justify keeping him.

Its so rare that Dallas makes a smart move like this, and then folks beat them up for it. They saved 10m by releasing a guy who clearly cannot play anymore. Not a tough call.
It was an easy call, I like Zeke, but I agreed with the move....still no reason for some to be talking crap about Emmitt for stating his opinion. The same ones that get butt hurt for being called out are the first ones to talk crap.

Wow. While I don't agree with Emmitt Smith's view here, what a shame some fans around here dirty up his name like that. He was an integral part of the Cowboys' dynasty. Not only a great player, but a good guy off the field too.

Lol, I love you Emmitt but Jerry made Zeke more money than any RB I can recall. At least in one contract. That’s the life of a RB. Not all of them could be like you.

Players stick up for players, I don't blame them. Zeke couldn't run through an arm tackle last year, he's done. Thankfully Jerry made a decision with his head finally.

Elliott got one of the highest (if not the highest) contracts for a running back when he was at his peak. He got paid. Now, even if the reason is injuries, he's no longer a bell-cow back, so he needs to be the one to concede that and take a much lower deal. Don't know if the sides couldn't work that out, but players have to realize when they are in the position to "go get your money" and when they need to reward the team that gave it to them. It's a two-way street.

Tyron Smith is a good example of this. He took a deep pay cut to stay here knowing that he hasn't been able to stay healthy for years and bet on himself by having his contract loaded with incentives.

Zeke was so weird to watch he was good for 3-7 yards a carry every time.

I think there was a stat where his life gets run in a few years was like 27 yards lol something bad like that

Need play makers. not gate keepers
