Am I the lone Cowboy fan who doesn't like what I see of Emmitt Smith as a person? If anything, the guy's somehow underrated as a player, but every time I hear him talk he comes off sounding petty and opinionated. Not a good combination. I never liked the stories about how he handled autographs. I also have a hard time forgiving him for Dancing with the Stars.

It's got nothing to do with his opinions on this particular team, because I'm not aware of him being particularly critical. He just comes off as one of the guys from the 90s teams I'd least like to have a beer with.

I'm reading the book, "Boys will be Boys," by Jeff Pearlman and Emmitt apparently wasn't all that well liked by a lot of his teammates. Extremely self-centered. I mean, extreme.

We have to take into account Pearlman's apparent dislike of Emmitt, but there are a lot of direct quotes from former teammates.

He was very respected as a player who left it all out on the field but personally I hear that he was an *hole a lot of the time.

It's crazy, but having heard Emmitt speak, these might as well be direct quotes.

Not exactly, but pretty close!

I'm curious about this, and have been for a long time, but how do former players, who aren't on a team anymore, know rather a guy is lazy or not? Do they pick a guy each year and follow them around all off-season, all training camp, and every practice through out the year so that they can actually make that statement with some sort of accuracy? I've never gotten how a guy like Emmitt, who I respect the hell out of for what he did here, who likely hasn't been around Roy Williams for more than an hour in their entire lives, can make an accurate claim that he's lazy.

"stretch the field" is one of those key commentator talking points that's easy to use to pigeonhole a team and make for easy criticisms.

I love Emmitt as a person and a football player...

But the guy should really find something else to do......radio and TV is not his forte......

I hate seeing him make a fool of himself...

Great running back, lousy prognosticator/analyst/speaker/thinker.

Oh, and RW is not lazy, he's just soft and whiney.

This doesn't really surprise me. It makes me sad, but doesn't surprise me. Making fun of his malaprops is one thing, but I feel dirty acknowledging that I don't really like the guy's personality.

Boy people getting bent out of shape over Emmitt's comments. I don't remember people getting this mad when Deion or Troy made their predictions about this year's team. Deion pretty much said the same thing Emmitt did a few months ago and Troy has never really endorsed this team but Emmitt gets all of the hate I guess.

my gosh, now we are trashing one of our greatest Cowboys of all-time because he has an interview after a 9-7 season where he says he thinks we'll win 7 games? sometimes you guys are ridiculous.. you do realize that Emmitt was the biggest reason we won 3 Super Bowls in the 90's, don't you? and the man bleeds silver and blue, if anything he has always been accused of being too biased when it comes to talking about the Cowboys.. he literally cheered for them when he was working for ESPN and always said, 'we' and 'us' when referring to the Cowboys.. sure guys, go ahead and defend a WR that's scored a grand total of 1 touchdown for us in favor of a man that gave it all he had for us so we could become 3 time world champions..

oh, and by the way, i have an incredible Emmitt signed birthday picture.. he was nothing but pure class to me, and actually went out of his way to do something amazingly nice for me.. reading Pearlman's book is like reading the National Enquirer.. but some of you guys probably do think that some mom in Utah gave birth to an alien's twin babies too..

Why is it that if someone in the media doesn't think the Cowboys are going to the Superbowl, THEY have a problem and must be sucking up to make money.

We all want the Cowboys to do well this year, but the fact is we don't know if they will be better or worse than last year. We didn't see anything in the preseason that we haven't seen in previous years (except long kickoffs).

How about we let the season play out and let people have their opinions until the Cowboys prove them wrong on the field.

I'm glad to hear he was cool in person. We're pretty carefully *not* trashing the player. What he did on the field is undeniable, and I said myself that I think he's actually underrated as a player.

I can't help it if I don't like the guy's personality. It's got nothing to do with what he said on a talk show today.
