and for a long period of time.
In this day and age of having 2, and even 3, RBs carrying the football, it ain't happening.
Not to mention that there isn't a team in the NFL who will commit to the run the way teams did during Emmitt's era. Those days are gone for a long, long, long time, if not forever. The video game mentality of the younger generations doesn't have the patience for that. Head coaches are getting younger and younger. Their philosophies are more towards the " wow " style than the grind it out style. Athletes, especially at the skill positions, are quicker and faster than ever before, so they can do more " spectacular " things on the field than before. At the same time, they aren't lasting as long as before.
Seriously, even during the Emmitt era, I never thought of the " 30 years old " rule for running backs. Now it's, practically, a given.
Chris Johnson is going to become somewhat the norm for NFL teams in the future. There are already a few of his type in college who should be high draft choices when they come out: Michael Smith from Arkansas, Dexter McCluster from Ole Miss, LeMichael James from Oregon, Joe McKnight from USC, and those are just the few I've seen personally..
Felix Jones could be in that group too, but I seriously don't know what's happened to him. I don't if it's the injuries, or he doesn't get in a rythem because of lack of touches, but he does have the same ability those guys have.
