Smith tore his achilles in 1995 but came back okay from that. It was back issues that ended his career.

Of course, the fact we're discussing the Cowboys secondary of the late 1990's pretty much sums up the current safety situation, doesn't it?

Just think , Young Stephen Jones wanted to ruff up Jerry for getting the Deion Sanders deal done even after Kevin Smith tore his Achilles week 1. Stephen would've cost us a Super Bowl if Jerry listened to him back then.

Maybe, maybe not. The Cowboys were 6-1 that year before Deion even took the field. I think the 1995 Cowboys were good enough to win the Super Bowl with or without Deion.

Young Stephen's concern was that if Dallas overpaid Sanders guys like Aikman, Smith, and Irvin would feel slighted. They brought in all the "big name" players for a visit to gauge how they felt and all of them said "no problem" to Deion's deal.

Tut tut! You will admit how lucky we are to have Stephen and you will do this now!

People laugh, joke, and complain but the Cowboys covered all their bases with low risk, high reward signings so far.

If they get Eric Berry I am happy until the draft. Even if he's no longer the player he was, his influence on the young guys would be immeasurable.
Stop it.
None of these guys are high reward.
This is the same nonsense sunshine pummpers said last offseason when we added all those low risk high reward WRs. How did that work out?

Berry has seen what we gave Lee so he likely understands the parameters of a deal. He also made over 50 mill in the last four years, so he's in a different place than a guy becoming a free agent for the first time.

What's it going to be then, eh?

So, he is signing aboard for nothing so he can play for a contender?

Tell me more.

Leave it to "Mr. Inside Information" to be the last to know and report that Berry is actually coming in for a visit on Tuesday!
What a maroon!!!
:lmao2:
Makes you wonder what poor souls actually pay for his "insider information" service.
:lmao:
He has literally never broke a big signing. I think ever.

Perhaps someone who pays for his "Insider" service can help to dispel that notion.

The guy was a great player. Hard to get excited given age and what he's been through physically. Hope for the best....

If they give him $7M or plus $7M guaranteed money and his health checks out comfortably for the Cowboys, my cousin (distant) will sign with the Cowboys. However, if the Cowboys mess around, he wants to go to the Falcons.

March 15 is when $7.25 million of Berry’s salary was to become fully guaranteed by the Chiefs. They cut him as a business decision. He has had the most celebrated and injury related career in NFL History.

Berry has played SS for the Chiefs but was a free safety most of career and in college. He would immediately send Heath to the bench as he can manage a secondary like Woodson use to manage things for Roy Williams which could improve Xavier Woods play.

I didn't like any of the WR signings last year. I like the signings this year, though.

Covington and Hyder are better FA pickups than the d-linemen this team wasted time signing in the past (Cedric Thornton, Kony Ealy, etc.).

Stephen to Jerry: "Daddy, our fans are really getting restless."

Jerry to Stephen: "Give them deadbeats, that'll slow their roll."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent S Eric Berry will visit the Cowboys Tuesday.
It's Berry's first visit since initially being released by the Chiefs. Still only 30, the three-time All-Pro makes for the perfect fit for Dallas after the team missed out on landing current Ravens S Earl Thomas in free agency. The only downside to signing Berry is his all-to-obvious injury history that's limited him to just three regular season games over the last two seasons. He would be a game-changer in the back of Dallas' secondary.
