Eric Winston Released by Chiefs

Cut Free, sign Winston and have him compete with Parnell?

Eric Winston allowed just three sacks in 2012. Every other RT with 3 or less sacks allowed played fewer pass block snaps than Winston.

He's always been good. The bottom line is he's not a liability. Dallas doesn't have an elite O-lineman on the roster yet (maybe Smith will be soon), but they have a few liabilities. In my opinion, the key is to eliminate the liabilities, then worry about elite talent. Get rid of Free and find a competent RG. I'm confident in Smith, Livings, Cook/Costa/Bernadeau at C, but not in RG or RT.

Chiefs: Give punter $19 mil., cut their best OL to save 700k, trade assets for Alex Smith, franchise tag their LT to (assumingly) move to RT

Winston is a local guy (Midland,Tx.) And he is a great guy! Did some blocking for Benson and won a state title or two. I would love to see him with a star on his helmet if we could afford it!

Yeah, I don't get it. There's already a news story saying Branden Albert is not happy. So they're moving Albert to RT, a position that 1) we don't know how he will do at, 2) he doesn't seem to be happy about playing, and 3) he will cost much more than Winston would have. Albert is only 1 year younger than Winston anyway. I don't understand their logic. If they knew they were gonna draft Joeckel, they should've saved the money and got rid of Albert.

Would love for Winston to wear the star. He isnt getting released because of performance. He's getting released because Albert was signed and they will most likely end up drafting Joeckel

Hopefully this guy grew up a Cowboy fan and is willing to take a discount.

Quote from Winston:

"Just wanted to confirm that I have been released," he wrote. "Even though it was an incredibly tough year on and off the field last year, I wouldn't trade the relationships I made in KC and the overall experience I had for anything. It was an honor to be a Chief and I wish them nothing but the best in the future. ... On to the next adventure!"
I wonder what that means. It's like he expected it.

Sign Winston and Parnell is officially the swing tackle.

Yeah. I'd feel much more comfortable with Parnell as the swing. I trust him to step in and play either tackle position for a game or maybe a few, but I definitely don't trust him being the permanent RT. Not yet.

Albert is younger (by a year) but can play both tackle spots. Winston is a great RT, but he's not a LT. It makes sense that he'd be the one cut, since you don't know what you're getting out of Joeckel yet.

Definitely underrated, he's a quality RT.

If you draft Joeckel (or one of the other LTs) at #1 overall, you play him at LT no matter what. Even though keeping Albert gives them more versatility, there is no way Joeckel isn't gonna be the LT. Winston is a pure RT and one of the best at it. I don't see how much of an improvement (if any) Albert will be at RT. It just wasn't worth keeping him if they knew they'd be drafting a tackle.

Just a guess but i think the off the field comment had a bit to do with the Jovan Belcher situation.

Winston would be perfect, he is a good run blocker and good at pass protection. Not a great RT but far and away better than Free. He is 29 so still fairly young. You may find RTs that are better at run blocking or pass blocking but you won't find many that are better than Winston at both.

Also the best part about Winston is where he has been. He played RT in Houston and KC both run zone blocking scheme which means he would be perfect in Callahan scheme.

Lets cut Free and sign Winston please. Go get a mid grade OG in FA and draft a OG early and we would be set.
