Eric Winston Released by Chiefs

Also the best part about Winston is where he has been. He played RT in Houston and KC both run zone blocking scheme which means he would be perfect in Callahan scheme.

Lets cut Free and sign Winston please. Go get a mid grade OG in FA and draft a OG early and we would be set.
That makes almost too much sense to happen.

If he signed a similar contract that he had with KC the Cowboys could easily fit the first year in by cutting Free.

He was also going to receive a $500,000 roster bonus and $100,000 workout bonus.

yes all that would have made him a 6.5 million cap hit, by releasing him he is only a 3 million cap hit saving 3.5 million against the cap

he was only a 2.5 million cap hit this year for KC

we could sign him to a similar 4 year 20 million contract and save money
Doug Free has to be a June 1st cut. If he is released this year he will be a 10 million cap hit just as much if we keep him.

Add me to the list of folks that would take him.

He was released by the Texans as a cap move and then signed by KC. Not sure why KC would be releasing him...they have cap room galore and it's not like they are flush with talent.

His deal with the Chiefs was 4 yrs for 22 million....you could relatively easily work that in if we get Romo's extension done and get rid of the other dead weight like Free, Connor and a few others that wouldn't be noticeable.
I think his release might have something to do with his stated disgust with the KC fans last year when they cheered Matt Cassel getting a concussion. I believe he was on radio and eloquently told the fans what he thought about there happiness with Matt's concussion. This plus cap saving.

releasing Free as a june 1st cut will save us 5 million this year and 6 million next year.

releasing Free now would be the same cap hit as keeping him 10 million but would save us 11 million against next years cap

The problem with the June 1st cut is that it doesn't come off the books until June 1st. It does little to help us this year.

This is one example of the restructuring coming back to bite us in the .

Free agency begins next Tuesday afternoon.
Should be a wild week.
BTW, the Cowboys will be competing with mant teams for Winston.
Some make this sound lie it's a tater just making an okay offer. But we still have cap issues compared to a ton of team--who can maybe offer more

It doesnt matter. We dont have to be under the cap until the season starta now. You have to be under the cap at the start of the season but not under the cap again until the season starts.

Winston was cut, so I'm pretty sure he immediately becomes an UFA and is free to sign with any team right now.

I absolutely love that Spotrac has added a dead weight column.

Not sure how accurate they are. Seems like they get most of the info right but some of the contracts that have odd stipulations are a crap shoot at times.

sign Romo to an extension and release Free, Vickers, and Connor and we have plenty of money to sign Winston with money left over to still sign others

Why is everyone in a rush to release Vickers. Is he making that much? I just don't get how the RBs get a pass for running behind a crappy o-line and the FB doesn't.

Are you serious? When did this become a rule? Seems pretty awsome to me.

Because vickers sucked at FB last year and his release will save over 1 million. Not worth that money.

Been rule for awhile. Since you are allowed to have 90 players for training camp you don't have to be undet the cap until you are down to your final 53.

Ever hear of the rule of 53?
