Escobar a good receiver?

I always wondered how good a receiver Escobar really is.
It does not seem that he has received any consistent playing time.

May be he is not a great blocker, but is he a better receiver than Swaim and Hanna?
Though I dont understand why he never seems to get a chance in the red zone.
Would have been nice if we could have used the 4th quarter in the Browns game to evaluate players like Escobar and Whitehead as receivers (yes, I remember the TD).

It seems TEs drafted in the 2nd round by the Cowboys leave after their rookie contracts and become starters else where.
In the case of Bennett, he became pretty good.

It would be nice if we get a chance to evaluate him, if nothing else but for a 3 year deal as Witten insurance?
That would beat using yet another 2nd round pick on a TE in 2017...

They have three TE's now - no need to keep him about.
He will be a 40 catch - 5 TD TE for another team.

Next year.

Is that not an improvement over Swaim or Hannah as a receiver?
Only need one blocking TE, and can always stash a blocking TE in the practice squad?
We could sign him to a cheap contract instead of using yet another 2nd round pick in 2017 or 2018?

I really hate the fact that M. Bennett went to other teams and is a beast. What happened to him here?

I read somewhere that he got annoyed in his rookie yet and tuned out the coaches for the rest of the rookie contract...
Never sure about the dynamic between the young TE draftees and Witten...

I think he's easily our 2nd best te but they don't use him.

That is why I am so puzzled why we do not use him in a 4wr package on the goal line given his enormous height advantage - say Dez, Twil, Witten and Escobar.

Escobar was used quite often in 2014 in the redzone, and back of the endzone IIRC.
Well, maybe not quite often, but when he was, it was successful. Not sure why they didn't / don't use him more.

I think it comes down to this. You can only desire so many guys in red zone trips.

Are we featuring Dez with back-shoulder fade stuff? Beasley with his quirks? Smash it in with Zeke? Zone read run with Dak?

There are a lot of weapons, and I think Escobar just finds himself way down the list.

He *****ed about the lack of communication between him and Witten YET he refused the instruction. From the coaches too.

IMO - Bennett wanted to play park football and the Cowboys wanted a professional.

I posted his stats.
His TD/target ratio is silly high.
Seems like a TE for the red zone to me.
I guess we have too many weapons, Dez, TWill, Beas, Witten, Zeke before Escobar
I would definitely use Dez, Beas, Witten and Zeke before Escobar, that leaves 1 spot for TWill, Butler and Escobar

2013 16 games, 9 rec 15 targets 14.9 avg 2 tds
2014 16 games, 9 rec, 13 targets 11.7 avg 4 tds
2015 14 games, 8 rec, 13 targets, 8.0 avg 1 td
2016 8 games, 1 rec, 1 target, 2.0 avg 1 td

He is pretty slow (4.88), but is there precedence for a slower 6'6" 250lb WR2?
Does he catch well in tight coverage with a DB playing jump ball?
Treadwell is 6'3" 215lb but ran a 4.66...

May be it is a Dak issue.
Dak seems to have trouble controlling how high the throw goes.

He was a guy who talked a big game & sucked, then cried about the shadow of Witten. He's a jerk & will be, on any team he lands on, regardless if he's a "beast" for them SHORT TERM.

He got stuck behind Witten. We tried pairing him and Witten to add a new dimension to the offense but it didn't work. He's done well since leaving the Cowboys because he was able to develop his game with teams that didn't have a Jason Witten. He's done well in NE because he's an experienced player who's playing with Belichick and Brady who know how to utilize his skills in a two TE offense.

How is NE using Bennett with Gronk that we could not figure out?
