First class jerk of a guy but he knew how to coach a defense.

Charles Haley was a 1st class jerk, and we were glad to have him.

I'm curious as to what RR thinks of the defensive talent on this team.

In 2009 we were ranked 2nd in defense (pts allowed), and this past season we were near the bottom.

Is it a question of coaching, or is it that the talent is over-rated and a year older?

Wade didn't change anything on defense for 2010 from 2009. Rest of the NFL figured us out. That's what happened.

Buddy was a complete jerk here is guy who threw a punch at Gilbride when they were both in Houston on national TV. He and Ditka could not stand each other towards the end of their relationship in Chicago. As a HC he did not give 2 cents about offense only concern was his defense and Philly suffered for it. But the man knows how to put together a defensive team and his players loved him.

He and Ditka didn't get along, but unlike Gilbride...Ditka was the puncher and Buddy was the punchee.

Bob Lilly was always my favorite Cowboy...as he was the face as I grew into an athlete myself. Liked your monikor...

but your comment brings up an issue as to coaches. Does Mathews having a son on a team in the NFC somewhat compromise his decision, possibly, towards remaining in the AFC just so that there is no conflict of interest?

I agree. As I said I don't think Buddy gave 2 cents about offense he lived and breathed defense which is why he was an excellent Defensive coach but a lousy HC.

Not including the 1987 game, the Cowboys were 1-8 against Ryan's Eagles from 1986-90.

Every team in the league had a record like that against us in those years. That isn't saying anything special.

Oh I doubt Buddy's put out at all. he dont care. Its a job. His sons making more money then Buddy ever did, and only stands to make more in the future witha good showing in Dallas. Buddys excited about this opportunity I would wager. Maybe he'll even try to come to a few games, though I would advise heavy security. hes not a well liked figure round these parts.

I dont care, I am not holding the sins of the father against the son. I like the hire and am excited about the future again. Cant wait for the staff to be filled out and see what kind of defense we can expect.

Let it go, it was a long time ago and its a game. I dont like Buddy, Joe Montana or any pittsburgh steeler from the 70's, but I would sit down and have a dinner with any of em today and talk about the past. Telling em how much I hated em back them probably would make em feel good too. That tells em they did their job well, and Buddy, for all his faults, the reason we hate him so much was he was good at beating the boys. I think we were 1-7 or something like that against him in Philthy.

Bounty bowl be damned. Imagine chatting with buddy and Randy White about it over a few beers today. Bet everyone would have a good time.

Ultimately we may be thanking Buddy for winning us a Lombardi if it turns out that way, without a Buddy Ryan, there would be not Rob Ryan. Remember, offense scores points, but defense wins championships.
