Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence: I'm better at left defensive end

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/cowboys-demarcus-lawrence-i-m-better-at-left-defensive-end-051415

When the Dallas Cowboys traded up to select defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in the beginning of the second round in the 2014 NFL Draft, they weren't concerned with which side of the defense he would play on. At the time, Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory weren't on the roster. Both Hardy and Gregory maximize their potential as right defensive ends. After seeing the majority of his snaps at right defensive end in 2014, Lawrence must prepare himself for a new role in 2015.

In anticipation that he will be playing more left defensive end in 2015, Lawrence has gotten his weight up to 260 pounds. He believes that the transition could end up making him a more effective pass rusher.

“I feel like I get off way better on my left side, keeping my right hand down,” Lawrence said...

I foresee a six sack season from him
I don't know why, but I chuckled at this.

I'd be happy with that type of production from him, assuming he's going to be sharing a lot of snaps with Hardy, Mincey, and Gregory.

I think Lawrence will improve a lot and be a very solid LDE. The key for the DL is that last year Mincey was our best DE and next year he will be the 4th best. That's huge.

I'd be better at Left defensive end if we just signed Hardy and drafted Gregory at RDE.

I imagine it was either Left DE or Left OUT for him.

He rushed the from both left and right end at Boise state. From the film I saw he seemed pretty effective at left end. Hopefully he put on enough weight to be effective at that position in the pro level.

I look for a big year for Lawrence, he was out most of last year and will come into this year with something to prove.

I am liking these rookie and second year defensive players, but I don't think the rookies will have much impact at all. It is rare for rookies to make much of s difference .

Going against RT's instead of LT's should certainly help

Going against whoever isn't blocking Hardy or Gregory will help too. No way you have a TE on his side with those guys opposite

Called this early in the offseason after we got Hardy. Just makes sense, especially with Gregory at right end too.

I actually thought Mincey would move over too, but it looks like they have shifted plans

Day 1 depth chart

RDE - Mincey, Gregory, Boatright
LDE - Lawrence, Russell, Gardner

Hardy Depth Chart

RDE - Hardy, Mincey, Gregory
LDE - Lawrence, Russell, Gardner

Had some impact rookies last year. Martin looked ok. Hitchens stepped up. And Lawrence came on late.

D-Law missed the entire preseason & first 9 regular season games...and had no sacks over the final 7 regular season games he played in.

He missed a ton of valuable time as a rookie, but started to show up when it mattered most...notching a sack in each playoff game, including the game sealing sack against the Lions, going from potential goat to hero.

Think there's a good chance he starts at LDE...with Mincey playing inside more & Russell, etc. behind him at LDE. Excited to see him continue to develop/produce.

I think Demarcus Lawrence wants to make sure he still has a spot, and I believe he does. He is definitely not a natural LDE though. If he bulks up enough, it won't matter. He and Hardy will play both sides and both will play inside at times when Gregory plays DE.

This is the beauty of it all. The versatility. It's ugly as hell on paper, which means the applications are potentially disastrous for other teams. There is no way to game plan for a team with three guys who can play inside and out, several guys who can play hand down or up, and a back seven with depth and limitless versatility.

It is all projections and prognostications at this point, but Marinelli has never had more weapons or versatility, not even in Tampa, than he will with the Cowboys this season.

Stroke the grey beard and laugh as your troops stomp the competition!

No quarter will be given in 2015.
