News: ESPN: Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence: I'm better at left defensive end

If I played SS and the team I am on signed/drafted two studs to play that position and I was moved to FS.....I would say that I was better suited to play free safety too

In all seriousness, who cares what end these guys play on, just get more pressure on the QB!

Glad to hear Lawrence is comfy with a role at left end. Especially so, since it's where he's very likely to be put.

I'd be better at Left defensive end if we just signed Hardy and drafted Gregory at RDE.

I imagine it was either Left DE or Left OUT for him.

I thought the same thing like he had a choice

Gardner, Edwards and Crawford are going to compete for that SDE. I won't be surprised if one breaks thru to the 53 while not holding my breath.

Lawrence is more of a WDE but they will rotate at edge rusher.

I think Lawrence will improve a lot and be a very solid LDE. The key for the DL is that last year Mincey was our best DE and next year he will be the 4th best. That's huge.

I agree, Mincey is a guy that is so important because he can pretty much play anywhere on the DL.

Had some impact rookies last year. Martin looked ok. Hitchens stepped up. And Lawrence came on late.

Martin was great, but he was the exception. As a rule rookies usually flash talent , but they don't become that productive until the second or more likely, the third year.

I'm sorry but a rookie making First Team All-Pro and the Pro Bowl is leaps and bounds better than just "ok".

Martin is a very big exception to the rule. IIRC , he done what no other rookie has done at that position.

Larry Warford was quite good, though without the All Pro nod

Sometimes I lay awake at night thinking about what our Line would look like had we drafted Warford instead of Escobar

I love you for posting this. The Catch gets so much hooplah, this play gets lost. Play of the Year. Period.

Play of a lifetime.

I mean, how many times does an athlete lose a game winning fumble recovery, come back on the very next play and pony up a sack/fumble recovery?

Are you kidding me? WOW.

This was not meant as a shot at you Tex..............this play just amazes me for all that it was.

Lawrence was far better against the run than I thought he would be. He is much stronger than expected - it seemed as thought he weight room work while injured really did benefit him.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him succeed here. THat said, our entire DL philosophy has been rotation and freshness. We are two deep at the end positions with versatility (most of them can play multiple line slots). I don't know if the term "starter" is really all that important for the defensive line right now.

I feel that Gardner and J Crawford will be inside at DT. Edwards isn't a consideration at this point.

Lawrence and Russell will be our SDE. Hardy and Gregory on the WDE. Mincey will be on the weakside until Hardy comes back with Gregory getting the majority of reps in nickel and dime. When Hardy comes back, Mincey may get some looks inside at DT.

But I do agree that either Gardner or Crawford, or both, have a legit shot to make the team.

Rod doesn't seem to care about size at DT. He wants guys that can penetrate and disrupt. If both Gardner and Crawford come into camp in the 280 range, then they'll have a shot. Crawford was moved to DT last year and looked pretty good. It didn't last long because he got hurt. Gardner is very much like T Crawford. He could be a pretty good backup 3T.

Crawford was healthy all season last year. When did he get hurt?
