I love Emmitt and everything he did for Dallas, but I will never forgive him for his "diamond surrounded by trash" comment, and frankly, I'm surprised so many Cowboy fans are willing to pretend he never said it . . .

Are you kidding .... hahahahahahahahah

Ernie Davis was better than Jim Brown....unfortunately his illness and death didnt allow him to show the world.

Also, Jim Brown was as big or bigger than a lot of the players he played against. Emmitt was a midget amongst giants during his era.

My dad used to tell me this all the time. He said Ernie Davis would have been a bad boy if he had lived to play in the NFL.

Rickey Jackson over Charles Haley?

What has he ever won? What team could double team Rickey Jackson?? He always played on teams with at least 2 other pro bowl pass rushers. He made his bones on a defense that sent all 4 of its linebackers to the pro bowl. Put Haley on the Dome Patrol and the Saints win a playoff game, at least.

One must have total and absolute amnesia to forget what Emmitt Smith said. Likewise, it would be equally true for those who do not remember everything he helped this franchise accomplish during his career here.

On the one hand, everyone can weigh his words. On the other hand, all can reflect on his deeds, both on and off the field.

Some will consider such things equal in every sense. Others will not. When it comes to each and every fan's opinion, Forrest Gump was right:

Life IS like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

John Randle was a terrific player. I have no qualms whatsoever about him being in the HOF, unlike a lot of players who are already there.

On the other hand, Charles Haley made a greater impact on the game than Randle ever did. Haley was the better player. Haley was an elite player for several years (so was Harvey Martin). I wonder if a lot of the moron voters look at Charles having 100 sacks in 13 years and think to themselves, "He averaged less than 8 sacks per year. He can't have been that good."

You fail, HOF. Once again.

1. No way anyone can know that. A lot of people beg to differ on Brown. I never saw either of them play, so I can only go off the fact that one of them was one of the most successful players in NFL history and the other never played a single NFL game.

2. So what if Brown was bigger? That's part of what made him great. Are Randy White's accomplishments tainted because he was stronger than most of the linemen he was going against? Brown was a freak of nature. IMO, the only way you can compare players to those in another era is to look at each player's #s relative to his peers. Brown's #s are pretty stout compared to the league's other best RBs in his day.

What do you guys think about players like Erick Williams, Charles Haley and Darren Woodson... IMO all of those guys deserve to be in the HOF...

Haley played in better teams,Randle was flat out special.
Think about it,6'1'',undrafted FA...and collected 137.5 from the DT position.
Also,he was a character,I heard stories about him just walking down the street and pass rushing stop signs!

As for Haley,I think his sour relationship with the media is hurting him.

Haley's sour disposition with the media and everyone else...

That and his horrible off-the-field conduct in general. There are some interesting stories about him in Boys Will Be Boys, if you haven't already read it.

What does draft status have to do with anything, other than making the story a little more interesting?

You cannot judge Haley's impact by sacks. He only had 10 sacks in 92 and 93, but was a dominating presence on the field. When Jimmy Johnson got Haley, his defense went from good to great, and set the stage for winning 3 super bowls.

San Antonio...give me a shout prior to camp next year. My wife and I will be coming up again this year. I was seated there when Bill walked onto the field for that first practice his first camp with Dallas. Personalities are all different at different times, but sometimes the context of personal feelings aren't portrayed when removed from the environment from which they were issued in a single thought. Emmitt is a humbled person, and that suffices quite nicely for myself. He also earned all of his recognition as well.

Are Randle, Jackson better than Haley?

By Calvin Watkins

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- All week retired Cowboys players said Charles Haley should get into the Hall of Fame.

In fact, former 49ers teammate Steve Young said on Saturday Haley was a dominant player. But the reality is Haley, who was a hall finalist for the first time in his career wasn't better than the two men who got ahead of him in John Randle and Rickey Jackson.

Haley was a great player but he was named to just two All-Pro teams and his 100.5 sacks is tied for 22nd all time. Haley, who has won more Super Bowl rings, five, than anyone in history was also a five-time Pro Bowler.

On Sunday, Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has a chance to tie Haley if his team beats the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV.

Randle has 137.5 sacks, tied for sixth in league history. What makes it so remarkable is that he was a defensive tackle and he has more sacks than Haley who rushed off the weakside.

Randle was also a seven-time Pro Bowler and named to six All Pro teams.

Let's look at Jackson. He is 10th all-time in sacks with 128 and he played as the strongside linebacker. Jackson was named to four All-Pro teams and six Pro Bowls.

Haley will get in but not right now.
"He deserves to, he really deserves too," Jerry Jones said of Haley going to the Hall of Fame. "I got a chance to see him and visit with him, he's deserving. He is everything we want to be."

If the Colts win tomorrow, Vinatieri adds his 5th.

I think Haley should have been in.

kickers should not get rings--especially if they are hurt all year
