DALLAS -- After winning the Ivy League Player of the Year award in 1988 while at Princeton, Jason Garrett was on New Orleans’ developmental squad a year later where he met Dom Capers, who was a defensive assistant coach for the Saints.

Man, if Cowboys didn't land Rob Ryan, I would have forever cursed Wade Phillips for it. Still think if it was Dom Capers, he would have stuck with Cowboys for a long time, since he would not be a Hc candidate anymore, unlike Rob Ryan is going to be.

Capers has done a great job in GB but they've rolled 7s on a lot of picks and free agent moves these past few years.

Capers is a great coach don't get me wrong, but he's had some really good groceries to cook the dinner with. When you look at his entire body of work it's not like he's been Dick LeBeau or Rex Ryan. It's a lot easier to call plays when you've got a handful of pro bowlers and no glaring holes in your depth chart.

Regardless, I'm still rueing the Brian Stewart era and him not wanting Capers around because he 'wouldn't feel comfortable.'

We can hope, but I doubt Capers will now move. Unless GB decides they will part ways because they got a hot Assistant in the wings that other teams want to steal.

And that's the job of the organization to recognize that keeping an unproven lackey happy should not be a higher priority over acquiring an experienced quality coach.

But don't worry that's all Wade's fault too.

If I were Brian Stewart I would be very embarrassed that his comment ever became public. Not that it matters much anymore because Stewart has gone from defensive guru's prodigy to nobody in very short order.

It's called Red Ballin.

It makes you delusional and start comparing unproven coaches to legends like Bill Walsh, while simultaneously scoffing at anyone who has anything negative to say about Garrett. It also tends to leave its users making this face

I've said it numerous times that I thought Garrett would have "usurped" Phillips a lot sooner if he was half as good as people thought he was.

I figured any coach worth his weight in salt wouldn't have allowed a complete loser mentality to drag him down.

But, after hearing about Jason's dedication to "role" and "structure", I've got to say that he is likely less responsible for the garbage than I had ever thought.

To his credit, he seems to have really stuck within his role (something I couldn't have done in the face of such idiocy) until his role was changed.

He didnt run things so no, he really wasnt the problem.

Everything got better last yr the day he took over for Wade. Offense, defense, special teams, tackling, blocking. Win more, lose less.

This gets tossed around all the time. Laufenberg said he had the same qualities as walsh. He played for walsh. Laufenberg has been right about alot of things and knows this organization imo better than any other media member.

To see this get shot down all the time like some sort of crazy statement is really annoying.

I would love to hear the people who like to use this the way you do try and debate this with laufenberg. Would be alot of fun to watch.

Pretty sad that not only the media in this city but the fans of this team basically do this with everything when they have an agenda against a person.

I maybe reaching here but I also think it is kind of strange that we had reports of stephen wanting to fire wade and hire garrett after 44-6 but jerry wouldnt.

then we get to the summer and all of a sudden the offensive players start using this term "the cowboys way" and the training camp was physical.

then they came out and ran the ball well and had a very good season.

then all of a sudden wade is fired last year and within days we start hearing "the cowboys way" out of the players mouths again and the pads are on at practice. All of a sudden we start winning.

I am not trying to connect the dots, but I am. Knowing what I know and from listening and watching jerry's reaction to winning It wouldnt shock me in the least to find out years from now that Jerry made sure we did it wades way with a soft camp and everyone happy hoping to not get anyone hurt.

I wouldnt be suprised, in fact jerry said it this past week that he thought we were just going to pick up where we leftoff and was trying to take it easy to stay healthy. Randy galloway on with babe a couple of weeks ago said he was told by staff members that jerry made the coaches completely back off after bryants injury at camp and that is why they never hit all summer.

Just saying, I know this will tick off alot of people but it kind of makes sense to me.

Hopefully we have a real hard training camp with a ton of competition.
