During the course of a year, I'll have somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 sports books show up in my mailbox. Unless the book was written by a close friend or my spouse, I don't normally bring it to your attention on the Beast. But while thumbing through Reuben Frank and Mark Eckel's excellent new book "Game Changers: The 50 Greatest Plays in Philadelphia Eagles Football History," I came across an explosive quote from former Eagles assistant and current Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

Asked why the Eagles have had so much success from 1999-2008 and the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game during that period, Harbaugh had this to say:
"Why is that? Because what Andy Reid and his program stand for is the opposite of what the Cowboys stand for. The Cowboys are a star system. It's all about building around individuals first and collecting talent, collecting great players. Andy has always been about building a team. And over the long haul, it's a team sport, and one of the greatest examples of that is what's happened with the Eagles and the Cowboys over the last 10 years. The Cowboys stand for everything that's wrong with the NFL."

Harbaugh spent nine years with the Eagles as a special teams and secondary coach before becoming the head coach in Baltimore in 2008. Obviously, his dislike of the Cowboys hasn't faded over time. Harbaugh made that comment last March.

Just another reason why I hated losing that game to the Ravens last year.

Yep, when they were stomping us from 1999-2002 it wasn't because we had too many "stars". It was because we had awful players thanks to being in cap hell, plus horrible drafting.

And Dave Campo.

I hated the Ravens before. That feeling just doubled.

I would say the same for Reid, but the hate meter was almost already pegged out on him.

Great point. They don't go for the big name, flashy players, but...

I got my milk bones ready and my dogs will be watching the game with me. Matter of fact one even has his own Cowboy jersey. Needless to say they are not Mike Vick fans. :laugh2:

I mean the man must know what he is talking about...look at all those Superbowls that Philly won

Lol...I was thinking the same thing friend. Only Superbowl winners over the last 10 years can talk down to us and he ain't one of them.

What a joke.

How many Super Bowls have the Eagles won?

How many has Jerry Jones won?

Did the Eagles not pay Kearse, Samuel, McNabb, Westbrook, etc and outrageous amount of money?

I agree with his concept but i think he wrongly applies it to the Cowboys. The Cowboys basically had very little talent at key positions until Parcells came and Romo emerged. Before that, the team basically stunk due to a lack of talent. I can't really remember there being any stars on the team between the Emmitt, Irvin, Aikman era and the day TO showed up. During this time, the Eagles built a very good team and dominated a very weak NFC East.

It's funny that when the Eagles stole T.O from the Ravens no one said boo about the Eagles doing things the wrong way, it's only when the big bad Cowboys make controversial decisions that they are accused of being the NFL's problem child. What an idiotic comment by someone who I thought was fairly intelligent.

Right thats my point. Since parcells showed up we only had one "Star" player that fits what he is talking about and that is owens.

and umm. well he has no right to say anything because owens was a bigger disaster in philly than Dallas, and philly went farther than they ever have sans 1 season with that guy.

he is acting like we are the yankees or mets. Which is not the case.
Hey hey don't go bashing the World Champs! My Yanks! :)

Disagree that we are wrong with everything NFL the current structuring of the salary cap is the no 1 thing that's wrong with the nfl.

The fact that every year each team has 20+new guy's on it who dont care just want to get payed has watered down the product to the point where fans dont care anymore about the player just what he counts vs the cap..

the day the cowboys cut emmitt smith was what made me open my eyes and it's never been the same since..

Don't feed the idgets folks. This is all about selling books, nothing more. Harbaugh is not stupid. In fact, he's one of the most intelligent young coaches in football. This comment was made to get press and sell books.

This is a QB driven league and it has been since it's inception. You want to know why the Giants and the Eagles have enjoyed a measure of success over the past 10 years while the Cowboys and the skinz have not? Look no further then the QB position. If you have one, you have a chance to win a lot of games. If you don't have one, your going to have 10 years of what we've experienced. That's just the fact of the matter. Giving his statement any more creedence then that is just demonstrating to the masses how poorly informed we are when it comes to the NFL.

don't eat the cheese folks.

He is just trying to make a buck off of the Star power. Ask yourself this, would anyone by his book if he didn't have anything in there about the cowboys? Would anyone quote a blurb from his book if it didn't mention the Cowboys? Jerry should ask for his cut. :star:
