shefter is to shannahan what mortensen is to parcells.

cahoots....there in it.

so if shannahan needs an angle pushed, his espn pushover will help him.

I cant wait to read the why team x...who hires shannahan is so much better by adam shefter....

shills are awesome.

I'm reasonably sure that if Shanahan ends up coaching a talented team with a good QB (like Dallas with Romo) that he will do quite well. If he ends up on a team with a major rebuilding project, I think he'd be a poor hire and do poorly overall because he is not very good when it comes to free agency or the draft. Same thing with Holmgren if he chose to coach (and he probably wont)

Exactly... The problem is the pieces in regards to the OL are not there... Actually, receivers as well, but Shanahan is good in that department...

What does anybody think about lovie smith if he came available? He has nothing to work with on offense and i like his defenses minus this year and urlacher- what do you guys think?

Doesn't Shanahan like the smaller, very mobile (and low blocking) Olinemen?

Would he totally revamp oline (that would be a situation where he'd want to swap out majority of oline players on this team then).

Very different style. Also, is he in favour of 3-4 defense and/or familiar with it? I just wondering if hiring him would mean a total rebuilding of the style of the team and if that makes sense at this point, or minor tinkering with trying to add some playmakers, leaders, toughness, and depth makes more sense.

Might take a few steps back for a number of years if you hire a coach with COMPLETELY different philophy to what has been in place for last number of years. Don't know enough about Shanny to make that prediction though.

I would be okay with Shanny. He would be awesome with Romo. As for as defense is concerned, I hope we bring in a strong 4 - 3 DC. I am tired of the 3 - 4 experiment. Actually I did not like it to begin with.

You trying to tell me that Shanny and Shefter are like two flat tires?

i'd cry tears of joy if we could get jeff fisher here.

Fisher would not last till the water got hot in Dallas

139-115 career coaching record
5-6 in postseason (3 wins in 1999 alone).
0-1 in the SB

Those stats would get Fisher hung outside the stadium over a 14 yr period here in Dallas. Considering that 3 of his 5 career playoff wins happened in 1999, Fisher was 2-6 in the other 13 yrs in the postseason.

That wont cut it in Dallas.

Oh god. please no.

Would you rather have Tecmo as the Head Coach???

Shanny may not be ideal, but compared to Garrett I will take him. Kinda like the lessor of two evils.

I think this is it.

Cowboys for Shanahan?

  • Shanahan wants either the chance to draft a new franchise QB, or a successful QB already in place. Enter Tony Romo.
  • It's been said that Shanahan prefers to have a lot of control over roster-building, and Jerry Jones himself acts as the GM; if Jones does a good enough sell job on Shanahan to have him come coach, one would think that the two men would come to some sort of working compromise with on personnel calls, too.
  • If the Garrett and Phillips firings both go through, there would be an opening for Mike's son Kyle to join him in Big D. At least the moving trucks wouldn't have to go too far, Kyle's currently with the Houston Texans

People pay for this drivel? I could have come up with that one on my own. I won't even charge ya for it either. ;)

I really like the idea of Dallas hiring Mike Shanahan.
We might not have a shot. Supposedly the big rumor is that he goes to Washington with personnel control now Cerrato is out of the way.

LOL..

Seriously, get real.

Oh hell yeah, Dallas should just get a lessor of two evils or a "may not be ideal" coach. Cause that has worked so well for them.

Maybe you should actually lay off the Tecmo..

Something he'd never get here.

Waste of time. Basically the blurb states that Garrett will be fired as well, so Shanahan can bring his son, Kyle, to be OC here.

Jerry will cede some personnel power to Shanny as well.

Shanny wants to go to a spot where there is an established qb or the ability to draft one in this upcoming draft. We have Tony Romo, so its a good fit.

No mention on how Shanahan will get around the fact that he loves zone blocking with small mobile lineman, and wants Bob Slowik to be his DC who runs a 4-3 defense I think. Two things he won't find here.

Personally, I'd rather find a young co-ordinator looking to prove himself than these older SB re-tread coaches.

You are a man after my own heart.

If we got Shanny Felix and Choice would rush for about 1500 yds each! I'm up for about any solid coach...I'm tired of assistants!

I'm with you on the 3-4 vs 4-3. We have the personnel to run either. I would love to see a D-line of Spencer, Spears, Rat and Ware. We have a couple of young LB's that are supposed to be able to run, so converting to a 4-3 does not bother me in the least.

The Shanahan-Romo connection is what would be intriguing. Seriously, Shanahan wanted Romo, just like Payton and the West Coast offense would make Romo excel and put up all-world numbers. Romo would be rolling-out of the pocket, running bootlegs, quick slants to take advantage of his release...The irony would be that Shanahan would once again be taking Wade Phillips job...

This is so ture and that's why im sold on what he could do with the talent we have but he also usually run a 4-3 also.

For those wanting a new young coach ready to prove himself over a "retread" like Shanahan or Gruden or whoever, you need to open your eyes. NO young unproven coach is going to be able to influence Jerry on anything important.

Jerry isn't going to give away ANY control to a young unproven. He will have to give a least some away to get a big time "retread" in here though. And I think most will agree the more control Jerry has to give away the better.

So I'll be rooting for the biggest retreads out there. Cowher is #1 because he would demand the most control. Any of the rest of the big names will also require much more imput than young upstart coach so-and-so.

Of course, there is still the chance Wade takes the Boys to the playoffs and enjoys a wild romp all the way to the Superbowl, which would save his job for sure. But I don't think many are holding their breath on that happening.
