ESPN Insider - Rumors: 3 reasons for Shanahan to DAL

Another issue is that Shanahan would have to re-vamp the line, because our personnel isn't suited for his style of play, which is finesse. We got guys like Bigg and Flozell that aren't that good in space. We went with Wade for continuity in the 3-4 and going with Mike, it would spell the end of the Garrett project. And SHanahan's defenses have sucked the last few years as well as his personnel decisions.

Isn't an uncapped year coming up where there will most likely be a number of highly paid players dumped for one reason or another. I'd bet we could get a couple decent O-linemen which fit the Shanahan mold from that. We could also dump Flobee and whoever else doesn't fit.

It could be done. We might not have a dominant line, but we could probably have at least a decent one. One that maybe isn't as prone to penalties and erratic play as our current one.

Yeah, hopefully we can find the next Mike Mularkey or Rod Marinelli.

Those guys were extra hungry.
Just my preference, finding someone new. Not saying its right or wrong. Name me a coach that won a Super Bowl with 2 different teams?

Cowher, Shanahan, Holmgren, or Gruden would be a mistake imo.

The next coach is actually irrelevant. Nothing will change with Jerry running the show. 13 years of futility and counting.

i'd cry tears of joy if we could get jeff fisher here.

their insane if they fire him!!!

that guy is something. When I was driving through their two years ago on a monday night, he was on a radio show for an hour and he was taking calls from fans....

He could handle everything being thrown at him in Dallas.

he will never make it here however!!!

dreamkiller.

I would take Kyle Shanahan before taking his old man. Perhaps the kid will turn out to be the second coming and stay with us for many years to come. Pops is what he is, an out of work coach who survived on past glory.

Jerry Jones says Mike Shanahan could coach Dallas

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is strongly considering hiring Mike Shanahan as his head coach...just not in 2009

ESPN is reporting via sources that Jerry Jones will "give thought" to hiring Shanahan but that 2010 might be the better timeframe to higher a new coach.

As I reported earlier this week, Shanahan has a connection with Tony Romo, when he tried to sign the free agent quarterback in 2003. Shanahan also tried to sign Terrell Owens when hardly any team wanted him.

Also appealing to Jones, Shanahan would not carry an exorbitant price tag. Because hiscontract had three years remaining, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen owes Shanahan $20 million. Any owner who hires Shanahan could pay him a lower salary than the estimated $7 million a year he's owed and Bowlen would be obligated to pay the balance of that "offset."

:laugh2:

Why we could even unearth the next Mike Tice with that approach.

I'd be okay with Shanahan as HC...I'm a little scared of getting another retread, definitely, but I think Shanny would certainly do alot for our offense....Really important though on who runs the D. I don't really know of any 3-4 DCs that are coming available that we might look into though. Any one have any ideas?

Fairfax, Va.: Wilbon, love your work! I wanted to ask you about something that was reported by your colleagues at ESPN. Adam Schefter stated that if the Dallas makes a coaching change after the season then Shanahan would prefer going there as opposed to coming to D.C. If that is the case, should Commanders fans want Dallas to win to keep him away from Jerry Jones?

And what if Shanahan does go to Dallas, who is Snyder's plan B seeing that Holmgren wants no part of this place, Gruden is happy on Monday Night and Cowher is not a Snyder fan and would rather coach the Panthers?

Michael Wilbon: Thank you ... It's been known for weeks that Mike Shanahan would prefer Dallas over the Commanders. And I've been told Mike Holmgren would be open to the idea of running the Commanders but not coaching the Commanders. Me? I'd have tried to hire Holmgren to run the Commanders and hire the coach. But you've all seen that Holmgren has talked to the Bills and Browns about running those franchises, which leads me to believe that the guys who own those teams have not tried to convince Holmgren to coach the Bills/Browns.

What does everybody think of Fox? If he came available, I think I would probably like him best, outside of Coher.

Sorry, having seen Fox coach here for the last several years, I would only want him in even numbered years :) (he hasn't had back to back winning seasons in a LONG time, IIRC).

If you think you're frustrated with the coaches we have now, Fox would drive you absolutely nuts. He's a control freak and has input into everything his coordinators do. He limits their playcalling, and tries to keep them more conservative, going with the old "3 yards and a cloud of dust" or "a punt is not a bad play" mantras. He is taking a beating around the Charlotte area, but there was a report today that the Panthers may end up keeping him around another year due to cost issues.

I might consider him as a DC, but he's more of a 4-3 guy, so not even that would excite me.

I'll keep looking.

I hope this doesn't become a big 'thing' that Dallas is already thinking of hiring Shanahan. I hope this is just a rumor with no facts. Because if the team finds out that Jerry is already looking into a new coach next year, say goodbye to the rest of the season

Who do you two want as coach that is so much better than Mike to get responses like God no? I can think of a few that I would want ahead of him but I would be just fine with him as our new head coach.

What god-awful journalism. If the headline reads, "Jerry Jones says..." then there should probably be a quote from Jerry Jones. Instead, we get one quote from unknown sources that says Jones will "give thought" to hiring Shannahan. Just ridiculous.
