The 3rd preseason game is the one opportunity you have to see where your team is at. You want to use this game to build some confidence entering the regular season. You can't afford to get off to a bad stat opening against 2 divisional opponents one of which you've battled for the division title with the past 2 seasons.

I do think Romo plays a few series this week. Just find it funny that KJJ has to slip in the hate at every opportunity.
Yes, he had a horrible game opening week last year before tearing the league to shreds.
I don't think the Cowboys dropped the ball by not playing him more in the preseason after him coming off back surgery.

He has to play some because he certainly isn't playing in the final preseason game none of the starters will. You can't just kiss off the preseason and flip a switch and be ready to play on opening day. The Cowboys have to get off to a fast start with Giants and Philly the first 2 weeks.

I agree Romo does need to get out there but I don't think they will be rusty coming out of camp. Last year was a different situation for Romo in that he had little practice time while this years he has only taken few days off. As for Dez if the coaches think it is best for him to sit then he should sit they have a better idea of Dez hamstrings than any of us. He has been back working out so that is good and with a couple weeks remaining I think Dez will be fine

I agree, Romo was still recovering this season camp has been much different, last year Romo missed every other day as they would work him out 1 day and rest the next, that has not been the case this training camp

He'll probably play the entire first half. Wouldn't bother me none if he only played a quarter though.

Despite Romo having a normal offseason there still can be rust from not playing in games and facing a live pass rush. You can't simulate what you face in games during practice. There's a reason teams play their starters in preseason it's to get them game sharp. It's scary to play your starters in preseason we saw what happened to Nelson with Green Bay but you have to get your team game acclimated so they're ready to play on opening day. I can understand sitting Dez out because a hamstring can linger and become nagging.

I'll be shocked if the Cowboys don't play Romo some if he doesn't play it will be 3 weeks since he took that one snap vs SF when he faces the Giants on Sept 13. That would be a HUGE mistake! I can't possibly see him being sharp taking only one snap all preseason. Plus he and Dez haven't played a game together since last January.

I'm not concerned with Romo throwing to Dez in the preseason. They can practice together on timing. I do believe, though, that it is more important for Romo to get some preseason work than it is for Dez because of the positions they play. QB is more of a rhythm position.

If he's sharp for a series or two, I'd get him out of there.

I agree and I think Romo does play in this game I don't think there will be any rust between him and Dez. They have been together long enough.

I should have added it also depends on the OL being in tact.

No question it's more important for a QB to get preseason work than a WR. With all the questions surrounding the running game Romo has to be sharp because he may have to put it up a lot on opening day.

So Dez has barely practice the last couple of weeks, and him and Romo are gonna just step up and play the Giants week 1 and click??? ... Yea OK. They need to get some sort or rhythm down prior to week one.

I want the starters to play the first half

If Dez is hurt he should rest, if healthy he should play

Romo needs to be working with the receivers he's going to be counting on during the season. He and Dez haven't played a game together in almost 8 months. They both need to get out there and work off the rust from the offseason. The Cowboys need to be sharpening the players they'll be counting on this season. Sitting starts out all preseason could lead to a sluggish start to the season.

Most teams get off to a sluggish start.

With the new CBA, it's October before teams are really ready anymore.

Right, because all Romo and Dez did in training camp was sit on their butts!

(where does it come from?)

If Dez isn't injured, he needs to play. You can't sit around babying all your guys. Injuries happen. If they don't happen in preseason, they happen in regular season, especially if you're stepping out on the field extra rusty.

I dont think Romo needs the time in a preseason game.;

He has been playing football for quite some time now. He will find it....;

The risk is too much. In fact, I would expect he doesnt need to be exerting to much in practice either, now or during the regular season. He is getting up there in age.

The best thing for T. Romo at this point in his career is to keep fresh, get as much rest as possible, whenever he can get it. Be fresh and ready, game time;

I would even desgin a gameplan that protected him as much as possible....We will need Romo through out the year, but if we rely on him, all 4 qrts, week in and week out.....That isnt going to end well;

I don't agree with that and you can't afford to get off to a sluggish start when you're facing 2 divisional opponents the first two weeks. It can take only one divisional loss to come back to haunt you at the end of the season.

Romo has played one series all preseason and it amounted to nothing.
2 handoffs & 1 short screen pass & didn't get drilled by a defender. That's fine by me. As for Romo's 3 INT deal, he was coming back after back surgery. He's not dealing with that now, so him playing zip the next 2 preseasons games shouldn't make a lick of difference, once the season starts.

That's not enough work to get a QB ready for the opener. Although Romo isn't dealing with the things he did this time last season he still needs preseason action to be game sharp. If the running struggles more will be put on Romo's plate and if he's off the Cowboys could end up struggling out of the blocks.
