I agree. I have never expected Wade to act like someone else. Wade knows how to deal with players he has been doing it a long time.

As for Wade remaining here I think that depends on him getting this team over the hump if he can do that then I think he will have earned an extension of his contract.

I have never believed there is only one way for a coach to deal with players I have seen many different coaches do things their own ways Tom Landry was nothing like Jimmy Johnson yet both had their share of success.

Exactly, but lets face it, whos Legacy defines this organization. For as much as Jimmy could have been a winner here, he walked and we've gone through a good handful of coaches. But if Wade was more of a peoples coach, would they really care what he did on the sidelines?

I personally feel what you do on the sidelines is not defined by your coaching style, but how you want to portray yourself to the public.

If Wade get this team over the hump I think he will gain more respect from some fans maybe not all but then you can't please everyone and why would you want to try? :laugh2:

It's obvious Tim McMahon never played the game of organized football. Stuff like that happens all the time. And it worked since Newman played flawless football afterwards. Mission accomplished by the Poodle.

I am sorry what league did you play in. I played through college and I guarentee if I put my hands on a coach I would not be playing the next game and maybe the rest of the year.

Yell at each other sure, that happens, but put your hands on a coach....Its sad when people think that this is ok.

Sorry, McMoron, the defense has played great lately and the secondary is difficult to pass on. Even after the incident the defense still played great.

You may act like Newman thrashed Campo to the ground, but that's not what happened. Wrong year for this team to try to create a controversy. Have fun continuing to be banned from the Mavs locker room.

Soooooo....

It wouldn't have been a better idea for Wade to come out in his presser and say the following.

---------------
"Yeah, they got into it a little bit. Not something we want happening, but it's in the heat of battle and those two are old friends. Within minutes they were back at work trying to shut down the Commanders defense."

"Terence isnt a rookie so he knows he can't do that because it sets a bad example. And I think him and Campo will clear the air and make sure it doesn't happen again."

"Campo loves Newman. They have a great relationship and as far as we are concerned the issue is over with and we move on in getting ready for the Raiders"
----------------

But nooooo...

Instead of making a statement this joke of a head coach gives an answer which keeps the story alive and not sets up all kinds of future stories should anything else like this take place.

It's also another example of Wade going into defense mode as soon as he hears a question about a topic that raises some eyebrows.

He has no media savvy.

And it's a joke when some people say that he's 'outsmarting' anyone with his answers.

If you are in the club that says he doesn't have to say anything than good. When the reporters start speculating about why this incident happened and what will be done about it then don't start complaining.

But you will. Because the Cowboys can't do anything wrong and they should never be questioned on anything.

For the 1,243,983th time it's the media's fault. They made Terence Newman shove Dave Campo on the sidelines during the game yesterday.

Jason Campbell was 12 for 12 on third down yesterday.

Let's relax on the praise for the defense. They were good. Not great. The Skins had a hand in shutting themselves down yesterday.

His ability to defuse is really lacking.

And he unintentionally adds fuel to the fire sometimes when he gets defensive and starts talking about reaching "the elite 8" and reciting his won-loss record.

Jerry actually hired a media coach years ago. He may not need to go that far, but a 3-minute session with Rich Dalrymple before his pressers would be extremely beneficial to Wade. They could go over the stuff that will undoubtedly come up. A good media relations/PR guy can extinguish a spark before it gets out of hand.

Ideally, you want the coach to be himself, but that's not always the best thing when talking to the media. Ask Jim Mora or Herm Edwards.

holding them to 6 points considering their standard 17 is just good? Id hate to see your expectations for great. But im sure you are expecting that defense that was on the field for a big portion of the game and not really looked gas is not enough for us not on the field, was not enough that they kept the game in check and made the turnover that sealed the win when all were expecting the FG to win the game. Good luck with that.

They missed two FG's and we won the time of posession battle.

They were good. Not great.

and how was that the defense's fault. Oh thats right KEPT THEM OUT OF THE END ZONE!!!!!!!!!!

They didnt looked gas, they didnt get mentally whipped, they didnt get frustrated at the offense due to lack of production, the defense gritted it out and game to play. You are right they werent great, Just a hell of a lot better than great.

Thats on top of us missing a FG, a fumble and our defense getting the turnover that sealed the win, defintely not a great performance. Good think they just caved in and went home.

No, it's the media's fault for acting like it's a big deal. Reporting what happened is fine ... Campo grabbed Newman after the defense came off the field, Newman shoved Campo, the two exchanged some words and it was over. In the heat of the moment, things like that happen. Needing an explanation for it is over the top.

The head coach says it was no big deal.

The coach involved says it was no big deal.

The player involved says it was no big deal.

And it was just a minor shove. Why can it not be left at that?

LOL.

So now because I won't say they were great I am saying they caved in and went home?

Calm down Mrs. Phillips. Your son's defense was good yesterday.

You were upset the team didn't get a 'Victory Monday' weren't you?

Because Wade went into defense mode immediately and gave it life.

If he acts like it's no big deal and gives the statement I wrote it's not on ESPN as 'Wade wasn't happy with reporters'.

When the HC yells out 'write whatever you want you were going to anyway' I think it's telling the media in the room he came into the presser without a plan on how to handle the questions about the nation seeing his #1 CB shove the former HC here who is now the DB's coach.

Chief stated it perfectly above. He has no idea how to defuse.

He's never one up on the media.

Never.

By Tim MacMahon

IRVING, Texas -- We shouldn’t be surprised by Wade Phillips’ reaction to the sideline confrontation between secondary coach Dave Campo and cornerback Terence Newman.

It’s easy to downplay the incident and blame the media for blowing it out of proportion. It’s ridiculous to insist that the media is “misinformed” about the situation, since video clearly shows Newman shove Campo after heated words were exchanged, but Phillips tends to look foolish when some firmness is in order from the head coach.

Remember his reaction to Pacman Jones’ fight with the bodyguard at the hotel? Or how about the way Phillips handled T.O. tearing his team apart the latter half of last season?

Given an opportunity to clarify what happened on the sideline Sunday, Phillips essentially excused Newman’s behavior.

“I mean, people are invading the sidelines now,” Phillips said. “These things have been going on a long time in football. Players get upset, coaches get upset. Sometimes you get upset with each other. Sometimes you’re trying to talk to each other. There’s a lot of things that go on that we get worked out, and that’s what we did.”

OK, fine, but Newman clearly has a lack of respect for the coaching staff. No matter what Phillips says, it is not typical for players to get physical with their coaches.

Newman has declined to speak to the media since the end of Sunday’s game, but he’s publicly called out Phillips’ staff before. During a December appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Newman accused the Cowboys’ coaches of failing to own up for their mistakes.

“That's what I'd like to see happen,” Newman said of coaches taking accountability. “I think as a player, you notice things like that. How can you respect someone who doesn't respect you, because he's putting the blame on someone else, rather than owning up to it?"

Furthermore, how do you respect a head coach who doesn’t demand it?

Ok, I didn't read all the replies in this thread but f this guy. Seriously.

So Coach Wade didn't feel sharing the details of what happened on the sidelines. I listened to his answer during his PC and to me, it really sounded by the tone of his voice that Wade didn't think it was any of the media's business about the details. So what, and I agree.

Sour grapes I say. "He wouldn't tell me the details so I'm gonna get him back by writing an article calling him weak. That'll show 'im, teach him a lesson."
