This story screams of total BS or total Idiocy if someone in Dez camp is actually saying to do this..
Bottom line as has been said at nauseam
If he doesn't sign a contract by 7/15 then he CAN NOT sign a long term contract until the off season.. His choice is to
Sign the franchise tag and show up to work
Don't sign the franchise tag until he wants to come to work and collect a pro rated amount of the franchise tag and lose millions.. He must do this by week 10 I believe to get credit for the season..
So holding out costs HIM $$$$... And doesn't do squat in negotiations because there won't be any after 7/15

Dallas Cowboys franchise player Dez Bryant confirmed to NFL Media columnist Michael Silver that he might be willing to miss regular-season action in a contract dispute.

Dez Bryant: 'Legit' chance of skipping game action

I'm unable to embed the video.

Demaryius Thomas isn't the only franchise-tagged wide receiver in danger of missing training camp if a long-term deal isn't signed by mid-July.

  • Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant told NFL Media columnist Michael Silver on Friday that he might miss regular-season action in a contract dispute.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported that Bryant was considering a holdout that could extend into the season.

"This is not a rumor," Bryant confirmed to Silver. "It's legit."

It's no surprise that Bryant would attempt to maximize his leverage and stimulate talks with just five weeks remaining before the July 15 deadline for franchise players to sign new contracts.

Time will tell if Bryant is willing to play hardball, risking close to $1 million per game on the $12.823 million guaranteed under the franchise tag.

Until we see Bryant actually missing game action, we're inclined to chalk this up to a ploy to coax theCowboys to the negotiating table.

Dez Bryant is getting upset. On the same day ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the Cowboys receiver may skip the first game of the regular season due to unhappiness over the lack of a long-term deal, Dez told Mike Silver of NFL Media, “It’s not a rumor. It’s legit.” Whether it’s legit or not, it’s…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2333574&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

How many fake stories about Dez can these idiots come up with? Last season crappaport was out there with the police visits story on a Sunday morning. Then they invented a video. Now they're postulating a hold out. Sports media is a minefield of clickbait, ignorance and sensationalism.

Reports on local DFW sports talk indicate Dez confirmed that he was considering it.

Unfortunately, Dez probably does not understand how it would be of zero benefit to him. He probably thinks it would work like it did for Emmitt, but the rules won't allow it to work that way.

And he would open himself up to more criticism. He would once again look like a selfish player in the media and this time it would be of his own making. Got to think his teammates would be upset as well, not that they would publicly say it.

I don't think Dez is a naive as you think

ESPN and Chris Mortensen put out a report today citing sources who say Dez Bryant might hold out if he doesn't get a long-term contract. You can go ahead and put me down as very skeptical that there is any real substance to this report. All of this sounds like a classic negotiating strategy concocted by an agent. In fact, when his agent was asked about the idea of a holdout, he said:

"I'm just not going to comment about that," said Bryant's agent Tom Condon. "Our goal is still to get something done on a long-term basis by the deadline."

Negotiations 101. Put something out there, don't confirm it but just let it hang in the air. See if you can get any traction with it. The problem is, it would seem way out of character for Dez to hold out. We all know that Dez wants a long-term deal, and so do the Cowboys, But Bryant loves the game, he loves his teammates, and it's not like he's exactly going to be in the poor house this year. $12.8 million is a very nice payday.

Bryant hasn't commented on this yet. Instead it's sources commenting, likely coming straight from Bryant's agent's office.

Bryant could not be reached for comment but a source cited the option of "pulling an Emmitt Smith," referring to the Cowboys Hall of Fame running back who missed the first two games of the 1993 season.

For a more reasoned look at this whole thing, read Todd Archer, he knows the deal. Perhaps the most telling paragraph in his whole article:

In 2012 Drew Brees was given the franchise tag by the New Orleans Saints but didn't sign his deal until right before the same deadline Bryant faces on July 15. Brees' agent? Condon.

This whole thing has Tom Condon's fingerprints all over it. As Bryant's agent, he's just doing his job. But there is no way Bryant won't be suited up come the regular season.

I realize that people are fans of a player and don't like to acknowledge that most facts and storys support a strong probability that some of them are morons.

I like Dez as a player and he seems good with the fans, but most things that he has done have not been smart.

I'm always of the mindset that if I was JJ and he came to me and said, "pay me or I'm sitting game one" I'd retort with, "enjoy the game. Don't bully me son, you'll get your money but these empty threats are only making your situation worse."

Players who threaten to sit if they don't get a deal can sit the whole damn season out of principle. The Cowboys would find a way to win without him.

You said Dez would accept a 10/300m deal thinking it was real.

That is beyond insulting.

So Emmitt is also not a team player with a team attitude correct? Neither is Drew Brees I take it...
