The Commanders and Steelers blitzed each other the whole first half. Nothing like the Cowboys did against the Broncos. The Cowboys are trying to learn the Phillips 34 defense. They have to learn how to blitz.

I was gonna say the same thing, Pitt blitzed almost every pass play including the one where Campbell got hurt...Washington Blitzed a lot also..Ask Lynch what that had to do with their defense stoping the run

That's just unbeleivable.
I sort of got the feeling reading all these reports this week about the two teams scrimmaging, that Denver was sort of outdoing the Boys in practice.

I'm curious how you thought that? If you go to the Denver board, they are clear that there were reports all week that the Cowboys were kicking their ***** in practice, but they just thought it was "biased" reporting by Dallas-area fans. Not only that, but all the reports I saw and heard showed the Cowboys winning most of the "battles" this last week in camp.

Just curious.

Hey Ravens, be mindful of Preseason Code of Ethics and stop the blitzing and getting after poor Manning, damn it.

You know you have a point.

What does Lynch have to say about their team getting run over for three rushing TDs?

The Giants are blitzing like crazy against the Ravens. I guess they code of ethics for the preseason.

So, Wade's defensive blitz packages somehow caused Lynch and the Denver defense to get physically manhandled for 4 quarters for 190 yards of rushing?

I haven't had a chance to watch the NFL Network replay yet, but Brad Sham said last night we weren't doing much stunting or any of the more sophisticated blitzes yet. And Phillips mentioned in his press conference that we stuck with our base defense a lot when the Broncos went to a three-wide offense, just because it's the preseason.

To be fair, we stunted on nearly every play in the first half, and just about every player in the defense blitzed at least once.

Broncos Think Cowboys Tried Too Hard

Yeah, about that Broncos beat down at the hands of the Cowboys last night...

Apparently, Wade Phillips was trying a lot harder than Mike Shanahan. "I don't know if Wade's (ticked) off the Broncos fired him, but it sure looked that way," Broncos safety John Lynch told the Denver Post. Lynch was kidding, but Dallas played the Week 2 preseason game more like it was the playoffs. Lynch added:
"They came out and game- planned us, blitzing every play. They came after us. It's no excuse for the way we played. But I think they might have broken the code of ethics for the preseason."
I don't know about any code of ethics -- it wasn't like the teams agreed beforehand on flag football and the Cowboys came out tackling -- but I take Lynch's point.

"It's what we ran against them in San Diego ... They blitzed us, too. We picked it up." That was Phillips offering a little backhanded advice to the Broncos. The takeaway: if teams blitz, pick it up. Huh, when Phillips puts it like that, it seems so ... simple.

Maybe the Cowboys went a little overboard last night, but I don't think it much matters in the scheme of things. Maybe Phillips was more concerned with sending a message to his players than placating an opponent. Whatever, once the games start counting, nobody will remember a meaningless Week 2 preseason get together. For now, though, I guess we should all be worried that the Cowboys are unethical. Duly noted.

I will not even get into the irony of a cut-block team blubbering about the virtues of sportsmanship.

That's the biggest irony of all...

BTW... Ekuban was injured when is own player hit his legs...

I've watched it twice now, and we did blitz some, but it wasnt on every play...we did some line slanting and some very creative blitzes, but I'm quite sure we didnt open up the entire playbook...we did some stuff, but their OL got man handled...no other way for them to spin it, it was just a whipping

I didn't know cry babies were allowed to play in the NFL...
ALL Cowboy opponents are crybabies, one and all.
Success brings opposition whining, same for this country on the world stage.

First year coaches are supposed to do that to get their systems in place.

Besides, do you hear about the Titans complaining because the Patriots threw every blitz in the book at Vince Young?

This is getting too much press and if I were a Broncos fan, I would be ashamed of the team.
:laugh2: read the comments from the bronco fans in the denver post. they think it's a bigger joke than we do. cry me a river denver boo-boo's

Broncos CRYING Foul On Phillips
August 19, 2007 3:14 PM

Just when I'd finally made peace with the Broncos, several players went public last night with allegations that Wade Phillips coached way too hard in the Cowboys' 31-20 preseason victory at Texas Stadium.

The Broncos even attributed injuries to defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban (a former Cowboys first-round pick) and running back Travis Henry to mean old Wade, who was apparently exacting revenge for his firing in Denver 13 years ago.

Veteran safety John Lynch noted that his team stuck with its base, seven-man front, and took measures to protect its injury-riddled offensive line with conservative play-calling.

Cue the string section.
"That's not what they did," Lynch said. "They came out and game- planned us, blitzing every play. They came after us. It's no excuse for the way we played. But I think they might have broken the code of ethics for the preseason."
Apparently quarterback Jay Cutler also joined in the whine tasting event in the visitor's locker room. Never mind that he's started five games in the league, and might see a couple of blitzes at some point this season.

Contrary to popular belief in this forum, I'm more than willing to rip the Cowboys when they're in the wrong. But in this case, you have a new head coach who is trying to implement a different defensive philosophy, as Tim Cowlishaw points out.

And he had one proven pass-rusher on the field last night.

I still think the Broncos have a chance to make some noise in the AFC, but the only thing I hear right now is a bunch of sniffling.

Losing a preseason game means nothing at this point. Losing your pride is a different story.
