NFL is appealing to make the sentence longer, not appealing to throw out any punishment or discipline.

Got it, like I said when I saw the story headline I assumed that the NFL was backing this perverted piece of crap and didn't bother to read the story because I was pissed off. Burt now that I know the NFL is in those women's corner it's all good! This dude needs to get the Trevor Bauer treatment!

Yea..... these woman would much rather watch the bachelor where woman are treated with some respect and dignity. Then after the bachelor they can switch over to real housewives of NJ, maybe followed by 50 shades of grey. Now thats a good night of entertainment.

Agree 100%. They agreed to the system, but when they don't like the outcome(which, BTW, followed their own rules to a T), they want to renegotiate? What a bunch of sniveling cowards.

The reason they named an arbitrator was to take heat off of Goodell. Not to be the last word or final resolution. But the new system still allowed for Goodell to pursue their intentions in case the arbitration fell short. And remember the Players Union has an appeal process as well.

The league obviously were hopeful the Arbitrator would fulfill their intentions and wanted to be able to abide by the ruling but this apparently fell too short of their expectations.

Goodell chose former New Jersey AG Peter Harvey to hear the appeal which is part of the process . Goodell ultimately holds the power to decide for himself but he is still seeking an outside source to more align with the leagues intended suspensions .

Harvey also has served as Goodell’s designee in other arbitrations , and he’s a member of the leagues Diversity Advisory Board.

Under the collective bargaining agreement the appeal process gave the power back to Goodell to enact punishment but he instead chose Harvey.

There is no timeline for when Harvey will hear the appeal but according to the leagues personal conduct policy it must be processed on an expedited basis.

Tell me something. How come these rules and regulations don't apply to the owners as well. Cris Canty on espn brought this up. No one should be above the law, correct?

Because it's their league, their rules. They tell their subjects what rules to follow. Not their peers.

Sure, but then it should come down to the teams. If they wish to risk tarnishing their image, they can. But the NFL playing the league police just seems a tad bizarre. I know it's been like this and will remain like this, but I think it would be better to leave this up to the teams.

That said, I don't care too much what happens to Watson.

I can understand if people are upset if Watson got too little punishment. What I don't get is why anyone would be upset if he got too much punishment.

I thought the 6 games was too little, but I understand why the judge gave that suspension. It was in accordance with the CBA. But they could give Watson a 5 year suspension and I couldn't care less. I couldn't give a crap about Watson.

Agree. I've said repeatedly, I can accept the outcome, no matter what it is. The players have nobody to blame but themselves for allowing the arbitrator to be appealed. The outcome of Watson's case was very predictable. Hes gone for a year.

It isn't like it used to be. The popularity of the sport gives players a lot of power. Contracts are now starting to be guaranteed, no trade clauses inserted into contracts. They need to just take a stand. Im pretty sure baseballs arbitrator's decisions are binding. Nfl players should demand the same.
