Because there are linebackers, like Patrick Willis, D-Ware, Urlacher, who are simply far better than him. That's how he doesn't make it. And don't give me that Willis makes it, beating him out, on name reconition when Willis is a rookie.

Fletcher is a good player but at the linebacker spot, at least in the NFC, he's fighting an uphill battle against several players that are just flat better than he is.

I do agree, however, that the Pro Bowl is not the be all end of all of player evaluation. That will not happen until they take the fan vote out of it. The fan vote, being roughly half the voting, is what clouds it because guys do get in, with a load of fans, on popularity only. That's how a guy like Roy Williams continues to make it each year despite the fact that the last two seasons he's really not deserved to.

It's also why a guy like T-New is only just now making his first appearance, this last season, when he's been one of the best Corners in the league for a few years.

It happens that way I guess.

I also agree that yes Portis should have made it in 05 (or 06 can't remember the exact year now) when he had those 1500 plus yards and double digit TDs.

You do understand that Fan Voting is only 1/3 of the voting right?

So in actually the players being be voted in are done so by the coaches and there peers. You know the guys they play against and or with?

*Shrugs* I think the fan voting must hold more weight than people give it credit for. There is no way that coaches and players are voting Roy Williams in as one of the top SS in Pro Football. Not unless they're intentionally doing it as a rib and I doubt rib's get all that worked out.

I notice teams overrate the Pro Bowl when they have a lot of players there -- especially ones that in no way deserve to be there...it's crazy...

Honestly, I didn't get riled up when Barber made it over Portis. I didn't get riled up when 158 Cowboys made it. I just don't care. It's entirely name recognition and who's more popular. Not who's a better player.

Sure you didn't...*wink* :lmao2:

Or maybe there is just no one else better than him? Or did we already forget that he wasn't a starter until Taylor was killed?

The players are just as bad -- b/c they vote for their friends etc.

Could be. Roy might just be lucky cause he's at a position that is very thin in the NFC in terms of top flight talent.

He certainly isn't a Pro Bowl player in my mind.

How was Taylor's, a free safety, death effect Roy Williams, a strong safety, pro bowl selection. Especially when you vote for a FS and a SS in ceperate categories...

Because they most likely put him as a SS, and had Hamlin as the FS

Just curious about Cooley, he dated a Cheerleader before they got married right? I thought that was something a player and or cheerleader could be kicked off the team for since its fraternizing?

3 or 4 cheerleaders have been kicked off the team (including his current wife) as a result of their hooking up with him.

I had a secretary whose cousin was a Redsk*ns cheerleader and got kicked off for hooking up with Cooley. He's a player to be sure. I've seen him around at local events and he comes across like a total partier/drinker. Shockey 2.0 in the making.

i think adamsJT pointed out that Hamlin was the beneficator of Taylors death as that allowed him to make the probowl, so they had Taylor at FS

Well i remember them listing Roy as an alternate, and Hamlin and Taylor starting on NFL Live.

That is probably my only issue with it, now that you mention it. Especially when players who have the "name" and only played 1/2 a season, like Trotter in '04, make it over someone who has had an outstanding year.

Other then that, the Pro Bowl is a nice thing to hang your hat on, but really, shouldn't be used as the defining "who's good and who's not" anymore.

I.E. How in the world have guys like London Fletcher (not just because he's a Skin -- he was worth in Buffalo too) not made a Pro Bowl?
I can't say I disagree with you at all.

I haven't watched a Pro Bowl in at least 14 years and I am a complete football junkie.

I agree on Fletcher BTW.

Whether or not there right about the cowboys has nothing to do with listing the starters for the NFL Pro-bowl team (that were also listed at NFL.com and ESPN.com)

Official news, is official news.

I agree on Fletcher BTW.

I've always been a Fletcher fan and hated the fact that he went to the Redksins. The reason he doesn't make the pro bowl in my opinion is there is always someone who turned more heads. When he was with Buffalo he had to compete with people like Zach Thomas and Patrick Willis didn't help his cause last year.

If you look at his last two years, he has actually switched from actually rushing the QB to more coverage plays and he has done quite well at it. (huge boost to PDs and his INTs are up)

Personally, I have always felt he was Pro Bowl caliber, he just didn't make it because of his competition and who the media talks about. Fletcher is a quite player who gets the job done. Think Michael Young of the Rangers. He is the most unknown super star in baseball. The guy has 200 hits in each of the last five season and has the game winning RBI in two all-star games yet most people I talk about Young too here in NY are like, "Who's that?"

One why are you talking about Baseball?

Two honestly how many people in New York know players that don't play for them or the Redsox? 5? 6?

Three Baseball? seriously? come on now, its always football all the time, and if by any chance your lacking in football, then you speak on basketball for 5 mins max. Baseball owes sports discussions 5 mins.
