My only issue with, "It's all just name recognition", Sonny, is that what happened to their name once they joined the Commanders? Did Bruce Smith lose his name? Did Portis lose his name? Taylor is a great name out there.

So saying it is just a name game is not a reason because Washington has signed big names. There is a level of play most must have. I do agree with you on certain points but not that it is only name recognition.

Dallas has/had that rule but I don't think it applies league-wide...

That's why Debbie had to do Dallas instead of the team...
:laugh2: I see what you did there!

So tried of fans whose team sucks complaining about the pro-bowl.

Here's the deal on the pro-bowl. The game itself has little meaning for obvious reasons that have been discussed time and time again.

The pro-bowl team has meaning and is legit. No system of selecting players will be perfect.

I don't care if its sports writers, coaches, players, fans or a combination like we have: players, coaches and fans.

There will always be oversights!

But people want to harp on the handful of slights each year ignore the fact that 95% of the named players actually deserve the designation.

AND ONE MORE THING FOR SONNY#9..........

When your team sucks every year, don't anticipate many PB nominations.

That' just life. To the victor go the spoils.
The Cowboys of 2000-2004 had very very few pro-bowl invites.

Like I said, the Pro Bowl is a nice thing to hang your hat on, but should not be the determining factor in "who's good and who isn't." For every Pro Bowl nominee, there are 3-4 players that are just as deserving.

And I would be saying that even if the Skins had ump-teen Pro Bowl nominees. In fact, I lost respect for the Pro Bowl when Gus Frerotte made it... :)

But come on, the fact still remains that NO prior probowl player has made the probowl after joining your team, can u explain how this can happen??...:lmao: :lmao:

Well, one:

For every Pro Bowl nominee, there are 3-4 players that are just as deserving.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, I just don't care. It's a stat for people like you and Sonnyboy to point fingers. Enjoy.

I disagree 100%. There are people that get in that don't deserve it. I admit to that. I also admit to that Roy Williams is getting a free ride there. And I am not saying that if you aren't selected to a pro bowl, then you are a bum... but they are the elite. You can have a very good player, a cornerstone of your defense, who just doesn't rate with the top three at that position in the game. Being the 4th best QB in a conference is a damn good accomplishment... but it doesn't mean you deserve it just as much as a Tom Brady. That arguement is horrible. Cooley is a very good TE, he isn't a top 3. Portis is a good running back, he isn't a top 3 (although some years he is damn close).

Some people get overlooked because it is tough to stand out as an elite player when the team around you is horrible. But to say the probowl roster is only 1/4th of the players that deserve to go??

I was speaking in generalities. Of course there are going to be players who have years far and above every one else.

doh! misread. sorry.

Are you meaning that who deserved to go ahead of him? Look, I am agianst the Roy bashing as much as the next guy but be honest... has he been a pro bowl player the past couple years? C'mon. Even my kool-aid isn't that blue. It isn't bad to be a good player not Pro-Bowl worthy. I see him as top 10, not top 3.

But it's a tough subject to be open in the generalities department. So is it more that 5 people go that don't deserve it or that 6 people could have gone but were overlooked for some reason? No system will be perfect. The majority of the people in the probowl deserve to be there. And an even greater percentage of the people not going deserve to be sitting at home.

Sigh... again with the "opinion" arguement. It is a forum. A place of opinions. In fact, the entire probowl selection is opinion. Send me your fact sheet of where he deserved to go. Why is it that if you aren't for something, you are against.

Guys... I like Roy. I want him on the team. But c'mon, he isn't in the top 3. Take him out of your mouth long enough to look at his game tape ;)

Again -- that's pretty much what I have been saying: the Pro Bowl is a nice thing to hang your hat on, but should not be the determining factor in who is and who isn't good.

Case in point: Tomlinson in 2003: 1643 yrds rushing, 100 rec 725 yrds receiving, 17 TDs (total). Did not go to Pro Bowl.

Then tell who is better oh great evaluator of talent

You have yet to tell him who is better than him at his position. He was already backing up Sharper in the pro-bowl, so i give you that one. But who else then. Come on. He may not be pro-bowl worthy as you put it. But who has been at the SS last couple of years.
