espn: Stretch with Randy Galloway on Eric Winston

.
I've heard many times that Dallas does not feel Winston is much (or any) of an upgrade over Free.
More than a few others around the league agree.

Don't shoot the messenger...just saying that I keep hearing this everywhere but here.

But if Free does not agree to a big pay cut, then Winston is a real possibility.

On an unrelated note.

This is the second audio clip I have heard and just from listening to him...this "stretch" guy sounds like an idiot who is more interested in making up a funny line than to accurately describe players.
I really didn't trust his evaluation of Free's ability to switch over to guard.

I'm hoping he's right that they are interested. Winston may not be great (hell, he may be awful for all I know) but I'd rather have a choice between him, Parnell and Free than just the latter two.

But he's gotta be cheaper, at least in the long run.

Yep
That's why Free will have to take that pay cut if he wants to stay here.

I know he's part of the Cowboy contigent taking part ina charity event coming up. Not sure that means anythig though.

There are only a couple of starting RT postions open out there, yet there are 3-4 players available if Free is included.
The teams still have the leverage.

I've been saying since the end of the season that Free will be on the team going into training camp. The Cowboys are going to give him every opportunity to prove his worth somewhere on the offensive line.

You are not the first to say this.

His post draft comments have made it pretty obvious.

I don't recall Broaddus saying that. Of the times I have heard him talk about that he kind of has said the opposite.

But maybe he has changed his mind and I have missed it.

Could have sworn I heard Broaddus say it, but I'll have to re-research it.

Smith said that because Free isn't long-legged for a tall lineman, he could play guard. He said he could "sit down" like a guard needs to in order to be effective.

I don't profess to know one way or the other.

That's why Galloway likes him. He makes Galloway wound smarter.

Free would be the same @ guard as he is @ tackle. One of the worst in the league.

What were those that you didn't like? That he didn't like the trade down and Frederick pick?

Keep in mind those were about the first non-optimistic comments he's made in months on that show.

the best option would be for parnell to start and play well. free to take a pay cut and be the swing guy. that saves us many million that can be sued to keep lee. at some point we have to find savings or we will end up losing some of the young players on the team. if thats not possible then signing a guy as cheap as possible is really a imprtant part of the equation if you look at the entire team, not just the oline. getting a rt that costs you a young guy may not be all that great of a deal in the long run

Fisher says Parnell has definitely gotten bigger and stronger over the off season. Parnell says that no matter who comes in , he plans to compete to start at RT. Good attitude at least.

This is a direct contradiction of that. Winston himself has contradicted that.

But Stretch went on to say that Free could move inside. People think he is too tall but he is not too tall because of his legs. The concern is he would not get low enough to block if he were too tall.

But evidently, per Stretch, his length is upper body.

Fish spews the company line so he can keep his inside source. he is Spags without the direct link to Jerry, meaning a dog collar and leash.

Winston, according to FO, graded higher. More athletic and Clabo was wearing down toward end of last year. Winston would like to play in Texas. The implication was that the Cowboys are in fact interested in Winston.

This comes down to money -- what can you get him for, do you keep Free, and if so, can you move Free inside to OG. Free might be able to move inside despite height because he doesn't play tall.

That's the nutshell summary, after one quick, somewhat distracted listen.

Thanks. Sounds promising..

A player getting bigger and stronger is pretty easy to measure. Not exactly the kind of thing you need a shill to report.

Calvin Watkins would have a 50/50 shot of getting such a story right.

You are ruining it for him...

That very well could be.

IMO he's been fairly negative since the draft. He not only bashed the #1 pick but sounded just like Mosley, Fitzsimmins, and other mediots with the typical Jerry bashing and conspiracy nonsense.

Comments like Frederick can put a 3 liter bottle of soda in his navel.

Didnt he criticize the 2nd pick, the TE as well?

Free at guard would be even more of an epic disaster. He will get shoved into Romo every other passing play.. Huge fail...
