Winston is likely a better zone run blocker than Clabo, but...the fact that we drafted Frederick in the first round would seem to indicate we aren't going to be doing much of that this year. Winston is definitely *not* a mauler, so I'm not sure he would be a good fit here.

The zone scheme in Dallas is nothing but a myth.

We're a power running team and will remain so as long as Garrett is here.

Stretch really didn't bother me....remember they are trying to entertain a mass audience, so just hardcore football talk all the time likely isn't the goal.

Funny how Galloway couldn't remember who Clay Shiver was. He is about as bad as Jerry with his "uh" after every 4 or 5 words.

Glad to see Stretch coming around in regard to Frederick...maybe he has actually watched some game tape. The dude looks pretty good at either G or C.

Free as a guard would be horrible. I don't care about the leg length or whatever. He won't be able to make that move.

Good to hear that Parnell is working hard....sounds like he might realize just how big the opportunity ahead of him is.

apologies in advance if i cover ground already tackled, didnt read all three pages of posts yet.

Winston over Clabo seems to be about Winston really wanting to be here. He is a Texas kid and of course was a Houston Texan so likely has settled in the state.

Clabo is a Tennesee kid and played collegiate ball at Wake Forest. He probably wanted to stay in the South East.

I think Dallas knows Winston could come down a bit in price. From what we have heard Clabo did so to get that deal with Miami.

Dallas doesn't have real money til June 2nd so the guy who hangs around is likely to get a gig.

FWIW I do believe we release Free and sign Winston. Winston is stating publicly he would consider Dallas at Clabo money. You can bet we can get him for even a little less. Only so many starting RT jobs in Texas.

Callahan has always been a power zone guy. Like Nick Sabin.
He uses big bodies and has them dictate the play by blocking any man in that area. Need very real strength to do that. Not surprisingly Callahan likes really strong OL.

I would feel a lot better about our oline with Moore and Parnell vs. Berny and Winston.

I like the power scheme and I think it's the best.

But if you're going to constantly bargain shop and miss on prospects than I think it's a good idea to switch to a full fledge zone running scheme because you can get a lot of yards just based on scheme alone.

You never really lose a battle as a lineman either. In theory the D line can do nothing right. It's all about how the RB reads the block.

All of this is known but at this point, he is far and away, more talented then anybody we have at OT, outside of Smith. He has starting talent but he is lazy and he needs a strong coaching staff and a strong locker room to make sure he plays. KC and San Diego had neither of those things. Do we? I think we absolutely have a strong coach in Callahan. I don't know if our locker room is strong enough but at this point, there are not a lot of other options out there.

Change of scenery and potentially playing for a winning team could be motivation...

He also said Free could slide over to guard. Brian Broaddus has said the same.

I remember Broaddus saying that he talked to the pro personnel people and they said no way.

I liked Gaither and thought he was a good player in Baltimore but is this guy even healthy and what kind of shape is he in?

If you have Jared Gaither at his best than you have a very good offensive tackle but I have no idea where he is at right now.

All signs right now point to Parnell being our best option.

A player getting bigger and stronger is pretty easy to measure. Not exactly the kind of thing you need a shill to report.

Calvin Watkins would have a 50/50 shot of getting such a story right.

Come on now Idgit. I have to say that over the past few months, you have been an excellent voice of reason amongst the vitriol and anger presented on the forums over this off season. I've have wanted to express thanks for a while now as you seem to do a great job of concisely dismantling many of the less educated positions while somehow remaining polite about it. With perfect timing, some of your posts have completely deflated a battle that would have otherwise devolved into an ugly mess of name calling.

But now you have to go and ruin it all. Calvin Watkins never, and I mean NEVER has a 50% chance at being right at anything. What are you thinking?

So if he's negative about a move the team makes, that makes him dumb?

Are you defending the same Stretch Smith that wanted the Cowboys to take the Honey Badger in RD 3 if he were still on the board?

This Honey Badger?

Well, for the record he changed his mind on Mathieu after he heard about the double digit drug test fails.

But you're right, he has said all along that the defensive coordinator and special teams were the whole problem the last couple of years and that Garrett and the offense weren't a problem at all... So I guess he is dumb.

True, he did change his tune on the Honey Badger.

I generally enjoy listening to Stretch, but he became way too mediot like post draft and seemed like a clown. That was a change he didnt need to make IMO.

I'm with you, believe me, just pointing out a very big red flag for this guy. Starting a ham sandwich at RT would be an improvement over Free (at least the defender would slow down a little to eat the sandwich) and there may be ways to write the contract that would get more motivation out of the guy,,, it is a risk though.
