ESPN Watkins: A former coach talks Roy and Romo

You don't give someone a huge extension like that

I think that's the most important bit.

This is our Clinton Portis deal. Except Portis actually played well for Washington once he came in.

Oh well, at least we didn't give up Champ Bailey.

Roy's problem is he got paid in advance. For whatever reason we didn't make him earn his keep. Jimmy Johnson used to talk about the fat cats on the team back in the day. Guys who had a little bit of success and weren't willing to sacrifice their bodies anymore. Why pay the price when you're already home free. Guys like Emmitt and Irvin are the exception of the rule. They play for pride and glory. Guys like Roy Williams and Alvin Harper are the other end of the spectrum when it comes to profesionalism.

All this talk about RW getting on the same page, timing, running certain routes, etc. is a bunch of bunk...after a year with the team and a complete offseason this is a worthless excuse.

Roy is not performing - period. He has trouble running clean routes, and he has lost confidence in his ability to catch the football. All the excuses in the world are not going to change things. He is not a rookie...a veteran should not have these problems.

Sit RW and let a hungry young WR play for now. Rotate several until someone steps up (RW can be in the rotation).

Dallas needs to consider reworking RW contract or cutting him in the upcoming offseason...

funny cause I saw Chris Chambers ball out against the Steelers with his new team. I see a rookie Michael Crabtree in San Francisco doing more than Roy too. both those guys haven't been with their teams for half as long as Roy has been here.
I like Roy, but this is a solid argument against him.

This article makes a lot of sense ... assuming it was written a year ago.

That's some of JJ's use of his psych degree. He's spoken many times of his mind control techniques. Apparently some of them worked. If there's some kool-aid that'll make RW more productive, hold him down and pour it down his throat and Romo's too. Maybe they'll both sync up and play to their billing.
