ESPN Watkins: More from Bennett

"I think I can be one of the all-time greats," Bennett said.

This is my problem with Martellus Bennett.

He has done nothing on the field to indicate this. He has done nothing in practice to indicate this, other than catch a lot of passes in pre-season from the #2 QB against 2nd string defenses. He has been called out for his work ethic by none other than the Lord of All Optimism Jerry Jones.

And he thinks he can be one of the all time greats if he just shows up and they change the system to accommodate him.

News flash Crunchy - even if they change the entire offense to revolve around you, you're still going to have to learn that system and be able to run it on the field without everyone telling you where you are supposed to line up. You can't even do that with the one that doesn't remotely revolve around you.

I could care less about the Tweeting. Its the "this is everyone's fault but mine" attitude that will keep this kid from ever reaching the next level IMO.

My wife's a great fit for me. We could have one of the all time great marriages. She just needs to change in order for me to be the husband I know I can be. I can't wait.

That about sums it up...

...hmmm, no. His 'tude is a good deal worse than blaming one's wife.

Is he lazy? Check.
Is he stupid in knowing what matters? Check.
Is he selfish and immature? Check.

I remember the people who kept thinking T.O. was going to change. This kind won't either. Not as long as he has money and a job in the show.

There is a proverb: As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool to his ways.

There is a lot of overreaction going on.

People got too excited about Bennett in the preseason and then got too disappointed in him at the end of the season.

Man the off season all the teeth gnashing and overreaction from players to fans to everything.

Sometimes I really think every little thing about nothing is over analyzed and every young player that is not a Pro Bowl player by 2 games into the season is a bust or can not contribute.

Lets not add in no overspending on a FA because some other team one the FA lottery so far that has not worked out for many teams

I watched the video and the guy has turned me off. He is full of excuses and has had too much TO and that other guy in his ear. Same with Choice, the residue of TO still smells up the locker room.

Hey Jerry, how about drafting some guys that love and are focused on football.

Too much overreaction going on.

I thought his blocking was improved, and I don't think he quit on the team.

I would give him one more year for sure. He's a young player, and it takes some players a bit longer to catch on.

Let's remember Tom Landry's 3-year rule . . . .

Uh oh, wagons are circling. How long before we declare a media conspiracy designed to make Martellus Bennett look like an immature, underachieving, loudmouthed doofus?

This is the same guy who was just a mediocre college player despite being one of the most high profile recruits in the country, and blamed the coaches, the system and his team for holding him back from being an "all time great".

Detect a trend?

wileedog is right ...when frickin Jerry Jones is calling you out in the media for a lack of work ethic, that's pretty bad. Jerry even publicly supported PacMan until the bitter end.

But .... but .... but ... this year he's going to mature. I just know it.

(psssstttt... Martellus, 'all time greats' don't drop critical 3rd down conversions that hit them right between the numbers, and they have generally have enough pride in their work to study enough to know where to line up)

While I do not agree with him going to the media to voice his complaints his pass patterns all year consisted of staying into block. Maybe if he was lucky they would let him flair out to the flats.

So yes unless they allow him to get out into patterns they are never going to get anywhere with him.

People seem to forget he was hurt for a while! If he is healthy and puts in the work next season. Our passing game improves big time. He is a really good athlete who can really cause problems when he and Witten are both on the field. We should be rooting for him to work out. Not trying to find a way to trade him. What would we get anyway? A 4th or 5th round pick? Not nearly enough compensation for the talent he has.
:pee:

:hammer: sad but very true.

pretty funny how "the system" was everyone's excuse for him not being better in college and now he's being slammed for using the same excuse. He is just repeating what he's heard.

Why we used a 2nd on a back up TE twice in 3 years really mystifies me.

I am sure it will not be long.

They want to use a full blown double tight end set but don't trust his work ethic, maturity and commitment enough to implement it yet.

Philips is OK but Bennet would be GREAT if he could only get out of his own way.

That's what's sad but true.

Ok that does it, slap da fool outta him already...:banghead:

No doubt. Where is Chad Hennings when you need him?

I am so done with this puke Bennett. Release anytime now.

Maybe if he learned to line up correctly the coaches and Romo would have a little more faith in him. You can't blame the system when you've proved on the field that your knowledge of the system is limited at best :bang2:
