The article would have some merit if he wasn't on this Roy Williams warpath.

Exactly. Where did that come from? Bledsoe was absolutely terrible. Dave Campo would have made that decision too.

I don't pat BP on the back for that, it was obvious.

We need someone who is happy to tell someone where to go when they are not performing.
It is not about being happy, it is about being able.

This is not a recent thing. It has been going on for years.

Even a coach who would be "happy to tell someone where to go" couldn't for all intents and purposes. Bill Parcells had to take players inserted into the mix by the GM and had to physically prove they couldn't play. Drew Henson, Peerless Price and Eddie George just to name a few. Eventually, it was proven who was right.

It continues now with Phillips. It is nothing new. Everyone had to be careful about Julius Jones' feelings for the entire 2007 season. Roy Williams could continue to underperform and you can almost bet he wouldn't be benched. We even make personnel decisions based on fear of competition.

This article was GARBAGE!

Compare Wade and Jerry's rep. to Belicheck and Parcells'.

Tough hard-nosed journalism. :bang2:

Or, players might try harder to live up to their mouths and paychecks. Roy Williams wants to be 'elite' so he say's. Well, by all means be elite. Don't tell me what you want to be, be what you're being paid to be. Until then he's anything but and is behind Crayton, who isn't telling us he wants to be elite.
So you want to bench Roy because of something he said in the media?

Yeah, that makes sense.

And the Romo-over-Bledsoe example by Wahoo doesn't fit, either. Romo played because Bledsoe had declined to the point that Romo was the better player. That's the whole point -- the better player plays.

So Crayton is better than Roy?

Add to that decisions taken by this HC not to upset a players feelings....suppose you could call them non decisions.....

Roy Williams is vastly more talented than Patrick Crayton, and he has been more productive this season when he has been able to play.

If he's able to play, why in the world would you start Patrick Crayton ahead of him? Starting Roy is not a difficult decision, it's the obvious one that any other NFL coach would make.

that a player who:

Yet owner Jerry Jones said he has no regrets about the trade.
"I'm glad we got him because we got where we want to be - a young wide receiver in Miles Austin on the way up and a chance to stretch the field," Jones said on his weekly radio show, "and then Roy Williams as your No.1 receiver with a chance to have a great year because of how hard he's been working."

“He's done a great job,” Romo said of Williams. “He's worked his tail off. He's in great shape. He runs good routes. The guy is smart, and he enjoys the game. It's what you want in a wide receiver.”

Romo said he wasn't concerned that the injury would stunt their progress.

"Nah, that's part of training camp, little nicks here and there," Romo said. "He's worked his butt off. If anything, it will help him have fresh legs."

All of the sudden has become " lazy ".

so Patrick Crayton should START ahead of Roy Williams. And here I was thinking Kevin Ogletree should be ahead of Crayton. This stuff is unbelievable some times!!!!!!!!

Personally I found this spew as Hogwash...

I think the Cowboys have always brought in players to work out.....

because Thomas in NE has been a bust of a FA signing......they still gave him years to see what he had.........Galloway is done.....was done in TB......another bad FA signing but lets praise him because he benched them and then released Galloway.

Lets give RW a chance.....shall we.

Come on man, are you really this obtuse?
Regardless of anything Roy has said, what is he judged by? What he's done on the field. Which is...?

Pretty much zilch and Werder is spot on, not just in regard to coaches, but to fans too. Despite this lack of production, you'll judge him based on what? His predigree? His price tag? Certainly not on his production.

You might not like Werder, but he's not saying anything that isn't true: Wade is a medicocre coach, personnel decisions are questionable and so far Williams hasn't paid dividends.

Are you this obtuse? You really think "living up to expectations" trumps playing the better player?

Expectations and contract aside, the better player should play. So you think Crayton is a better WR than Roy?

Read Adam's post above if you're having trouble with mine.

Far from it, just not at all concerned with perceptions when reality is providing evidence. Is Roy better? Probably; is he playing better? Nope. I've watched all of these games, minus KC and Roy hasn't stood out any farther than that lowly Crayton. If he's so much better, why? And if Crayton is such a slug, why is he on the same level and in excess? The same guy is throwing him the ball.

If exceeding expectations garners more results than that great label of 'being the better player', then yeah, it's much more valuable. 'Being better' is mitigated if you're not trying too hard. Lot's of talented people go nowhere in this world. Talent alone doesn't cut it.

In a recent conversation, former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson considered the question of what percentage of professional football players are capable of properly motivating themselves.

Johnson required less time to form his response than for him to transform the Cowboys from laughingstocks to a Super Bowl dynasty. "You have a handful of players on every team who can do it themselves,'' he said. "The rest need somebody who is always on their rear ends -- and that's why football teams have coaches.''

This article assumes several things that may not be true.

1st is that Austin's best position is the one Roy Williams occupies. Irvin told Werder this wasn't the fact, but he ignored it.

2nd that having Crayton and Austin on the field will be a better dynamic than Austin and Williams. We've seen one -against a horrid defense - but have not seen the other.

3rd, that Williams has such lack of respect in the locker room this team would be upset if Crayton was put in his normal position as the #3 receiver.

Now I will agree that having a foot on the back of player's necks is important. And a team will not flourish if they are left to their own devices for motivation.

This has been my biggest complaint about Phillips. And I do believe Jones has a hand in the way this team is handled.

I would tend to believe the entire team needs a motivator and not just Williams. They have the talent to be better than what we have seen. They under achieve. That is Wade's job to get them mentally ready.

Some make fun of Werder. It was just an opinion of his.

Great read a nice little tidbit of why Dallas is doomed to mediocrity and failure.

Werder failed to mention how just Denver ate a 15 yard penalty on Marshall for kicking a football that negated a pass interference call. Denver kicked a field goal one play later on the stalled drive....

Marshall isn't all grown up AT ALL.

And Werder is a bigger dufus then we all think if he suspects Patrick Crayton is a better WR than RW11.

Steve Smith isn't producing much in Carolina either... guess they should just demte him to 3rd WR....

RW11 has been making positive plays even if he doesn't have great receiving totals. Crayton is not the same caliber player and Werder once again is an idiot.

That would have been a brilliant move to demote a guy who was out injured after giving up his body to try and help out his QB. Brilliant!!!

And you do not demote him one spot you demote him two!!!!

Miles Austin an Pat Crayton were battling in camp for the 2/3 WR slots. Austin was dinged up and quickly lost the battle. The fact he has recovered and made game breaking plays means he finally won a job that was always in his sights. Ig RW11 doesn't produce Austin will get more balls and become the de facto #1 WR anyway.

Crayton has always been his best out of the slot and as a 3rd WR.

Did I mention that Ed Werder might be the dumbest guy to ever cover pro football???

Galloway made fun of Werder too, at one point telling him to shut up, lol.

This was just stupid journalism.
Werder took 3 or 4 of his personal opinions and promoted them as facts then strung them together as an article.

Dallas has some issues and leadership can certainly be questioned but this was a stupid case to use.
