Cassel was competing for the starting job in Buffalo in camp, so he wasn't a realistic option here at that point.

Not sure I agree with your point, anyway, given his play in the NY and SEA games. Take away the focus PHI put on Dez last week and put it on Beasley, and that game might have been a different story, too.

Of course, reading the post before responding to it is too much to expect from you

Not surprising

Cassel is not the problem. Backup QB is not the problem. The offensive scheme is the problem. If we had a scheme that put these players in a position to succeed we would have won at least 3 or 4 games without Romo. Such a vanilla offense. We can't tell with Romo back there because he is a wizard but with someone less competent at the position it is so obvious (as we have seen). We also need a playmaker to replace the horrid Williams (Josh Gordon please)

Cassel as backup is smart, but a replacement needs to be acquired via the draft or trade cause Romo got about 3 good years left.

Which post? The OP, or your response? Not sure I see what you're getting at.

I'd hate to bring him or Weeden back. We should draft the heir apparent. Enough with these retreads.

I think Cassel is a really solid backup to have.

I just think we need more of a playmaker type with Garretts scheme.

I'd like a guy that can do more with his legs behind Romo. A Colt McCoy type.

We need a guy who can make plays outside of the scheme as our backup.

Why this didn't occur to the team in the first place is puzzling. I'm holding my breath for the eventual RG3 to Dallas rumors this off season. Jerry always thinks who knows better than everyone else.

I wouldn't be opposed to him coming back. Gotta start looking for Romo's successor though.

It will either be that or Johnny Manzel.

I don't mind him coming back. I think if he had more time to learn the playbook and get familiar with his receivers he'd be serviceable.

I am all about bringing Cassel back. He's good enough to win some game, but his talent and age are limited enough that they'll continue to search the stars for the future of the franchise.

Jerry is on some serious tranquilizers if he thinks Romo is playing 6 more years. Sounds like a guy trying to justify restructuring Romo to free up more money, to me.

I'm fine with Cassel coming back as a number three, but he has no business being the backup. He's too limited at this point in his career. Need to draft a quarterback to sit behind Romo for a year or two.

I should know better than to try to have a normal discussion with you.

In any event, since I'm not seeing anything in the OP that you might have been referring to and you won't answer the question directly, I'm going to assume you're talking about your own post with its scintillating criticism of the HC for not having a player under contract to another team on the Cowboys roster instead. Nicely done.

Why? He cant win a single game. Why would you bring him back?

Well he's an Eagles supporter if that helps. But in this case I agree I'd sign him and draft a development qb

We probably need to spend a 1st rounder on the QB of the future. Romo keeps breaking down, If we do that we dont need this guy.

I am fine with bringing Cassel back as the #2. He has improved each week and looks better than Weeden ever has, even when he was completing 3 yd passes to Dunbar.

As far as the draft, I don't think there is any reason to spend a high draft pick on a QB while Romo is here. No high round QB is gonna be content sitting on the bench for 2-3 years, and if he isn't getting playing time, he likely isn't going to improve that much. So at the end of 3 - 4 years you have to make a big money decision on a QB that you really don't know how good they are.

I'd just as soon continue building a strong supporting cast that even an average QB can win games behind. Good OL. Good DL. The rest is fluff.

I think not; Cassel has been worse than even Weeden. I honestly have no idea who could be a back up in this offense. Apparently it requires an upper echelon talent who has the ability to orchestrate and move around every player on the field at the line while the play clock ticks down.
