ESPN's Todd McShay "Rams are angling to trade up for the No. 9 overall pick "

What's better value? A pass rushing OLB or a 34 DE? I mean, to me that's a no brainer but lets say you do pick a DE. What do you do next year at OLB? What's going to cost us more in FA, a 34 DE or a 34 OLB? Besides, at this point, I believe that Smith is rated higher then either Watt or Jordan.

I guess that makes sense.

I would rather trade up than trade down, but I would only trade up for Peterson.

I really don't know what we are going to do. However, if there is truth to this rumor, then I have to think that it's with an eye towards defense. If Tyron Smith were still on the board at 12, I would imagine that he would be the pick of the Vikings. They need a LOT and I'd guess that either Costonzo or Tyron Smith would be their selection.

Teams wanting to move up get more desperate once the Draft is actually going down.

I think we could do a bit better than a 3rd. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

I think it is. The big misconception about the draft and moving down is that there are all these teams that want to do it. It takes 2 to tango and there are alot of teams that value their picks more than one player. Without FA this will be a strange draft because we will see if a team desperately wants one guy or if they hoarde picks because they need as many chanes to hit as they can.

I wouldn't be shocked if they get a 2nd, they will definitely get more than a 3rd if they move down that far.

I think that the rumors we've all heard, IE Cowboys trading up if Peterson gets to 6, would probably take presidence over any trade down option. However, the likelyhood of Peterson being there at 6 is not certain. I think the Cowboys have to look at their options. Personally, if the 1 or 2 players that they covet (I don't know how many or who exactly) are not their at 9, there is little value for the Cowboys at sticking at 9. The smart thing to do would be to identify the couple of players you like and trade down IMO. I can see there reasoning.

However, if rumors are true and Peterson does somehow fall to 6, then I think all bets are off, so to speak.

That trading up to 6 thing bothers me some. We'd have to cough up our 9 and our 71st pick and maybe 176th (6th rd) too.

That could mean we are making this trade
getting:
6)Patrick Peterson

giving up (choose your combo):
9) Tyron Smith ( or maybe Fairley or Amukamara or Jordan, or Quinn, etc)

PLUS

71) Kendrick Ellis (or maybe Marcus Cannon (prob not) or Marcus Gilchrist, etc, etc)

PLUS

176) Cecil Shorts (or Terance Tolliver, Chykie Brown, Dwayne Harris, etc.

That's a lot to think about, imo.

Just depends on who is there when we pick at 9.
I was the one wanting a trade back more than anything ealrier but now I hear Washington wants to trade abck to get Locker. If we move back Detriot takes Smith at 13 than what do we do at 14. Thats to high for Carimi, chances of moving back again are slim.

I would stay at 9 and just take Smith. We trade back with St.Louis some team needing a OT might trade up for Smith, or needs a CB will trade up for Prince, or a 3-4 team might trade up to get Aldon Smith before Houston can.

Say we trade back to 14 this is how I see it going. If we trade abck and Julio is gone, Washington will trade back to take Locker.
I think making the first trade will cause a bunch of other trades.

9. St. Louis Julio Jones
10. San Diego Aldon Smith
11. Houston Prince Amukamrua
12. Minnesota Robert Quinn
13. Detriot Tyron Smith
14. Dallas (now what) J.J. Watt or Cameron Jordan, to high for Carimi. WHo are you going to trade back with now. Why would NE trade up?

I would be overjoyed if we landed Watt at 14 and traded up into the lower 1st and snagged 1a) Carimi or 1b) Pouncey

What would it take for Tyron Smith to fall to #14?

I think that if Smith, J. Jones and Prince are available at 9, then the trade might work.

#9 J. Jones (STL)
#10 ? (WAS)
#11 ? (HOU)
#12 ? (MIN)
#13 Prince (DET)
#14 Tyron Smith

WAS just took an OT last year.
HOU Probably defense (can't be Prince for the trade to "work")
MIN You would have to be convinced that they won't take T. Smith

Tyron Smith won't drop to 14. Detroit and even Minny could grab him.

I have read that Detriot has Tyron Smith 4th on their board. They have Prince 1st, Quinn 2nd, Bowers 3rd, and Smith 4th.

Minny has much more pressing issues. They need a CB, QB, and DE them selves before they need a OT. I don't see Minny taking a OT in round 1 this year. McKinnie and Loadholt can still play.

The thing that scares me is Washington, if Julio Jones is gone then they are trading back. Shanny wants Locker and more picks. If we trade back to 14 and St. Louis takes Julio then Washington will trade back and whom ever they draft with might take Tyron Smith.

On thing for sure...nobody outside of their HC and owner know exactly what their board looks like...if it is even finalized.

Don't mean to be flippant, but no way someone knows this (if the data even exists at this point)

Minny isn't getting a QB. If they do, they would be paying a ransom at 12 to get him. (unless they took Mallett, which I think would be a mistake)

McKinnie is 31 and it sounds like the Vikings aren't so enamored with him right now. Tyron Smith would be a nice addition.

btw, there is no way in hell Prince is first on their list. Maybe they think he is the best they have a chance on getting, but he damn sure isn't first.

just telling you what I read and why not. Some have Price going 11 to Houston. Detriot needs a CB an dhe fits that scheme. I could see them wanting Prince.

And if Minny wants to draft a LT at 12 thats never played that position then good luck on that one. I would keep McKinnie. He is a good player and at 31 is still a good player.

Minny is high on Locker, I don't think they take him at 12, they might trade up in the 1st to get him.

I'm not a big fan of it either but that's the rumor. A lot of people I respect are saying that if he gets to 6, the Cowboys could make a move up to get him.

They would have to make it the 14th pick and a 2nd and 3rd to get me to move at all....

You wouldnt do it for just a 2nd?

Im pretty confident you could flip that 2nd into another 1st round pick.

We drop five spots and miss out on possibly the top OT and DE in the draft for a 3rd round pick? I'm not sold.
You're not factoring in screwing the Commanders at the same time. That's gotta be worth at least a fifth.
