ESPN's Todd McShay "Rams are angling to trade up for the No. 9 overall pick "

In all honesty, I'd rather Dallas trade up than acquire more picks.

We've seen what the carpet-bombing effect can produce. Whole bunch of a guys you have to cut later.

Bundle up and get a guy you think is a star.

My thoughts exactly. However, if you can get the same guy at 14 that you wanted to draft at 9, then adding a 3rd rounder is better than not.

If Dallas is open for that trade why not continue going down the first and gather more picks? After about 12 their really isn't much left other than DE's like cameron Jordan and maybe watt or Ot's like Constanzo and Carimi which you can probaly get a little later in the first. Worse case scenario you end up with Pouncey and maybe Watkins in the second.

If you make this trade, the target is probably a defensive player. If we believe what has been said of late, then it's probably Aldon Smith. With an extra third, the Cowboys could probably make a move back up into the 1st to take a Carimi or Costanzo or whichever RT they like. That would be a pretty solid move IMO.

And do what with Spencer?

If you get Aldon and Carimi/Castonzo then that is an amazing draft as is.

Let him full around with not playing to his potential like he already does.

He has gave us no reason to rely on him. If he was a consistent player than we'd have no worries.

This is what I said in my last post. I'm seeing mocks with Peterson at 6-7. I'd just jump to make that move and live with the fact that at least you got what many consider the top guy on the board.

But the move down doesn't bother me as much because, as I said, Watt, Jordan and all of the O-lineman run together for me so I don't think you are missing out.

Yeah but do you think Dallas can afford to select a luxury and ignore the needs? ol and secondary are much more important.

Why do you have to do anything with Spencer? If you take a guy like Smith, your probably taking him to use him all along the LOS. Spencer's contract is up after this season, I believe. Lets say for just a moment that he has another OK year. I mean, nothing off the carts, maybe 6 or 7 sacks. What do you do with him in FA? Do you give him a big contract or do you let him go and if you let him go, then who do you replace him with? You would basically have to go out and sign another FA to a big contract. Financially, neither option makes much sense in that scenario. You give Spencer big money for OK production or you give another player big money because you have nobody who can step in and play there. If you look at it from a financial perspective, it makes a lot of sense to go out and pick a player that you can play at OLB.

I would not see that kind of move as a luxury for the reasons I outline earlier. Besides, if you move back up into the 1st, your not really ignoring the OL needs. Your moving up to take a RT in an area where they have better value then using the 9th overall pick. Personally, I think Carimi is the best RT in this draft.

So you ignore this years needs and worry about next year? If we are going defense why not take Jordan or Watt and worry about olb next season?

Teams wanting to move up get more desperate once the Draft is actually going down.

I think we could do a bit better than a 3rd. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

i will happy with this as long as we get our RT out of this in the first rd.

Just depends on who is there when we pick at 9.
I was the one wanting a trade back more than anything ealrier but now I hear Washington wants to trade abck to get Locker. If we move back Detriot takes Smith at 13 than what do we do at 14. Thats to high for Carimi, chances of moving back again are slim.

I would stay at 9 and just take Smith. We trade back with St.Louis some team needing a OT might trade up for Smith, or needs a CB will trade up for Prince, or a 3-4 team might trade up to get Aldon Smith before Houston can.

Say we trade back to 14 this is how I see it going. If we trade abck and Julio is gone, Washington will trade back to take Locker.
I think making the first trade will cause a bunch of other trades.

9. St. Louis Julio Jones
10. San Diego Aldon Smith
11. Houston Prince Amukamrua
12. Minnesota Robert Quinn
13. Detriot Tyron Smith
14. Dallas (now what) J.J. Watt or Cameron Jordan, to high for Carimi. WHo are you going to trade back with now. Why would NE trade up?

We have a chance to land an elite defender or the top OL in the draft. Trading down shouldn't be even a consideration, unless the offer is extraordinary.

If Spencer plays with the same consistency than I don't think it's a luxury pick.

A bigtime OLB, like Spencer is supposed to be, is the quickest fix for our defense.

I'm not on the Aldon Smith bandwagon yet, but I understand the logic of ABQ. Basically, Smith is projected to be a difference maker and Jordan and Watt are not as catalytic. I think Watt and Jordan will make the same impact as Spears. We took Spears at 20, you take either two of those guys at 14 and que the bust wagon. The one draft fact I'm certain about, as a general rule, you should not take a 3-4 DE in the high first round. Rules are made to be broken but Watt will not generate enough pass rush to go at 14 IMHO. Jordan maybe a little different as some think he can play OLB in some freaky defensive formation. If he can get you 10 sacks a year, take him at 14.

On the other hand, an OLB with major pass rush upside coupled with the fact he played DT on pass rush downs, reminds me a lot of Justin Tuck. If you can get Smith to play 3 positions, OLB, DE (even front) and DT (even front), thats a steal.

Add all that up and if you can get an OT by trading back into the lower portion of round 1 (ala Anthony Spencer trade) - thats a heck of a draft in my mind.

What's better value? A pass rushing OLB or a 34 DE? I mean, to me that's a no brainer but lets say you do pick a DE. What do you do next year at OLB? What's going to cost us more in FA, a 34 DE or a 34 OLB? Besides, at this point, I believe that Smith is rated higher then either Watt or Jordan.

Pass rush isn't a luxury. It's a necessity.

Needs should be way down the list of considerations when you're talking about a top 10 draft pick.

What would it take for Tyron Smith to fall to #14?

I think that if Smith, J. Jones and Prince are available at 9, then the trade might work.

#9 J. Jones (STL)
#10 ? (WAS)
#11 ? (HOU)
#12 ? (MIN)
#13 Prince (DET)
#14 Tyron Smith

WAS just took an OT last year.
HOU Probably defense (can't be Prince for the trade to "work")
MIN You would have to be convinced that they won't take T. Smith

Yeah.. Same could be said about RT or a Stud OLB.

The more I think about it im starting to go back to my original way of thinking and wanting to not draft a DE or RT.

AS good as Tyron is if you just want him as your RT and have no LT plans than take a guy who can hit the QB.
