Euro 2016

Of course there isn't the depth of teams. CONMEBOL is only made up of 10 countries. They have to borrow 6 teams from CONCACAF to make a tournament. UEFA has 55 members to choose from to make up their 24 team touney.

I've always though the 2 organisations should merge. No need for 2 Continental Federations in Pan-America. I think USA would benefit from playing with stronger opposition and it would get rid of the fixture fatigue in the South American WC qualifiers.

other than the US and Mexico, the rest of CONCACAF would be destroyed. Canada will only agree if Brazil agrees to let us hammer them in hockey ;)

South America really is 3 -4 teams and also rans.

Delighted with that tonight. Got married in Croatia so claim that as a second nationality. Sat watching the game in my Croatia shirt with a couple of beers and won a few quid on the result. Also my outright bets on them to win the tournament and Perisic (both each way) to be top scorer are looking good and prices have been slashed

I agree. That is 30% to 40% of their confederation that are good teams. UEFA also only has 30% to 40% that are good with the rest also rans, but with 55 member nations that equates to 16 to 22 teams. They have an advantage based on the sheer volume of participating countries.

CONCACAF has 41 member nations, but I think the percentage of good teams is very low. Probably in the 15% to 20% range.

I don't know if it is that high. You have USA, Mexico top two, Cost Rica, Jamaica and sometimes Trinidad. The rest are bums.

Spain got busted on a counterattack late... thought they had it in the bag at 1-0....

Oh well, now they have to fight their way out the bracket... Italy up first.. ouch...

Table looks set for Belgium to make it to the Finals.
Wouldn't mind that at all.

Other half the bracket is absolutely stacked.

Spain has to go through Italy, then probably Germany and most likely France to get to the Finals all because Shakira's boyfriend didn't turn and run back fast enough (and brutal goaltending too).

If Shakira was my gf I wouldn't have the legs to run either.

Really hope Poland **** them. Terrible team to watch

Edit: admittedly I've had a few beers supporting Croatia and might be bitter

No it's not just you, they are painful to watch
