They might be one of the favorites. I still think Germany, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia wil be up there too. I thought Germany dominated most of the game but just couldn't put the ball in the net. The France keeper played very well.

Cant see Colombia or Chile competing with the big guns from Europe - particularly since the next WC is in Russia.

Chile and Argentina will definitely compete but you'd think Germany and France would be early favorites.

Brazil has more talent than anyone basically all the time but they won't play smart football and they don't put together anything near consistent.

Not sure being in Russia tells us too much about about who gets a big nod as the country is truly massive.
Finland, Sweden, Iceland would seem to get a big boost but again there's the massive scale of the country.

It's closer to Beijing in general than France. But definitely South American teams will be out of their national element in the cold and playing half a day away.
All that being said most of those South American players are playing in Europe anyway so they won't suffer as much as in the past.
Chile is a top 3 team. They are just good.

it was friendly compared to a few of the play-ons and rough tackles they let go early against France

I liked that they were letting them play. It was a pretty physical game overall. Its a whole other world in the box and you have to play through that. You will always get called for a hand ball like that. He fell asleep on defense..

Brazil's major weakness is that they have a terrible aerial defence. 60yd passes to a traditional tall centre forward will always beat them. Can be beaten by mediocre European teams who play like this.

There goalkeepers are also vampires - afraid of crosses.

Bring back the Euros. My club side got beat by a part time team from Gibraltar (population less than half the capacity of our stadium) last night in a Champions League qualifier

Worst result in Celtic history? Bad start for Rodgers.

It's certainly up there. It should be meaningless after the return leg in Glasgow next week though which makes it difficult to put right at the top of the list. These qualifiers come round so early in the season, the new manager has only had something like 12 days to work with the players. The surface was shockingly bad, I genuinely play on better at my local sports centre, and obviously favoured them. In saying that a team with our wage bill should be comfortably beating a team some of whom were driving taxis and working as a border guard earlier in the day regardless of where and when they're playing.
I wouldn't place it above Artmedia or Clyde in the last 20 years solely on the basis I can't see us not turning it round by sticking 4 or 5 past them next week. As a stand alone 90 minutes though it's as bad as I've ever seen.
